As an avid runner and dedicated pedstrian, I'd like to see this conversation opened wider to discuss the idea of multi-use, non-car transportation, and not just bikes.

It has always seemed odd to me that not every road (moreso in newer neighborhoods) has a companion sidewalk or bike/foot trail: after all, isn't living in a city also about learning to navigate our city?  And why should I navigate it any differently just because I'm on foot/bike versus in a car?

For example, the Terwillegar Drive bridge over the Anthony Henday has no pedestrian path. I use that bridge often (in a car) to access the many services on either side, but the only way to cross on foot is by going more than a kilometer (more like 5+km if one considers the pedestrian-friendly detours involved) in either direction.

It's a chicken and egg, problem in my mind: we probably can't justify more pedestrian/bike paths until more people use them, but people won't use them (at last for anything more than recreation) until they can use them without having to go through an alternate-route planning exercise to get where they want to go.

My 2c.

Plus One Is… Today is my last day. An evening tempo out with the crew tonight will mark twenty-one out of twenty-one days in April. Then, for both personal sanity and responsible training reasons, I'm taking a few days off to rest-slash-taper for my half marathon on this upcoming Sunday.

Added my project to Make Something Edmonton's site:

Check it out.  Like it.  Buy a million copies and help me retire early. Y'know... whatever.

I'm just an Edmonton dad who (a few years ago) wrote a little rhyming story about a bee for his daughter. Her response (after requesting that I read it eleven more times) was that I draw some pictures to go along with it. I did. It took me a couple ...

I wrote a kids book... weird, huh?

Baylee the Bee is embarrassed because she is a little bit different from her sisters. How will the other bees make her feel a part of the team? An upbeat poem, illustrated with crisp and and colourful imagery that will delight children at story time.

Search for baylee the bee on Amazon or iTunes.

Marathoners  -
It's funny how you can be very happy with a result and simultaneously kicking yourself over the same thing. Despite (and against) a number of factors, I scored a personal record in this morning's half marathon. A PR for my best half marathon ever. KA-POW! According to the official chip tracking ...

In April 2015 we went for a little wander through a local natural preserve, picked up some twigs, and hunted for geocaches (though we didn't find any!)

Introduction
I am a student of the school of self-taught: ignore the rules, learn by trial-and-error, grow your mind and move on to the next challenge.  I don't particularly care how others do it: I'll figure it out on my own, then share the results.  I take pictures.  I write, blog, draw, and create stories.  I think about complex ideas in topics ranging from science to sociology to politics. I'm a father, a runner, a gamer, a lover of all things pop-culture, and a career information evangelist.  Sometimes I seek great adventure in whatever form it comes, but sometimes I just enjoy a quiet afternoon on the couch with a cold drink and my dog curled up alongside.
