I freakin' love this arrangement of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazelwood! Without actually googling it (because I'm freakin' sick of googling every little thing), I'd lay bets that Nancy and Lee were a prime inspiration for the Belle and Sebastian sound that I also love so well.

Barack Obama and George W. Bush Are Distant Cousins
Incredible, but it does seem to be true! As it turns out, all the U.S. presidents except one are descended from King John. I don't suppose there is any significance to this, though it will nag at the brain.

My personal experience can back up the claims of the Newsweek story. Having experienced lifelong attention trouble, removing my fluoride intake some eight or so years ago made a HUGE difference to my prospects. (I never was anything anyone would call hyperactive, though.)

An interesting infographic shows the vocal ranges of many favourite singers. For example: Did you know that Elvis Presley's range was the same as John Lennon's? And no surprise here: Johnny Cash was among the least capable of high notes.
From Mariah Carey's ear-piercing whistle to Barry White's deep bassy growl, compare the vocal ranges of today's top artists with the greatest of all time.

I remember saying back in the day that Beck was the closest thing our generation had to a David Bowie, so I'm glad to see that he's still hanging in there two decades onward.

Solving the Nuclear Power Dilemma
Luckily for your children, there are people a lot smarter than me who are also trying to think of solutions to all the world's problems. In the case of Leslie Dewan, she's  a lot prettier than yours truly too. She has an answer for what to do with all the world's nuclear waste. If you didn't have something to feel good about today, I hope this does the trick.

+Pedro Calmon Man, the guy in that video is no prettier than me either. But seriously, it's good to see that there are so many possibilities. Now we just need to overthrow the system that's designed around providing wealth to the wealthy and replace it with one that serves all our needs. Cooperative agenda versus competitive agenda.

"... when you’re trying to study human consciousness ... all you can do is correlate experiential changes with changes in brain states. But no matter how tight these correlations become, that never gives you license to throw out the first-person experiential side." I gotta say, people taking that license was always a sore spot with me when I was a young Philosophy student. (I myself always argued the point of correlations not being the same as toe-to-the-football causal relations.)
Consciousness is an emergent property of the brain, resulting from the communication of information across all its regions and cannot be reduced to something residing in specific areas.

To back up the point of the article, to expect any creative success I must become more interested in my own creativity than in the creativity of others. Also to keep in mind, browsing Google+ does me almost no damn good whatsoever.
The author of a new book about the habits of successful creative people explains why rebuffing, rebutting, and straight up just saying "no" will fuel your endeavors.

I was a great admirer of Freaks and Geeks back when it was new, and since then most of the cast have done fairly well for themselves, most notably James Franco and Seth Rogen. But I'd been wondering whatever happened to Martin Starr. Well, here he is in a VICE Short:
