COLOMBO –

Colombo stands as Sri Lanka's commercial capital and the largest city with a population of nearly five million. It was the legislative capital of Sri Lanka until 1982. Located on the western coast of the island, Colombo is one of the best destinations in Sri Lanka with scores of attractions in the metropolis and suburban areas.

SIGIRIYA –

Yet another UNESCO world heritage site in Sri Lanka, Sigiriya is a wonderful ancient palace built atop a 660 feet tall rock column. Located about 170 km northeast of Colombo and 56 km west of Polonnaruwa, this wonderful rock castle is a creation of King Kassapa (AD 477-495). Sigiriya is one of the most attracted historical sites in Sri Lanka and it is most famous for its stunning frescoes.

DAMBULLA -

Located 20 km south of Habarana and 55 km north of Matale, Dambulla is a commercial town with Sri Lanka's largest produce market and is most famous for the cave temples and also for the iconic golden temple. One of the eight world heritage sites in Sri Lanka, Dambulla heritage site with a history extending from prehistoric and proto-historic times, right down to the modern period, makes Sri Lanka's heritage really splendorous. On your way to Sigiriya, it is worth stopping over at Dambulla to catch a glimpse of these wonderful cave temples, ironwood forest, rose quartz mountain and megalithic cemetery.

KANDY -

Sri Lanka's second largest city after Colombo, located in the central hills 116 km east of Colombo, 1551 ft above sea level, Kandy is a historic city of highest religious and cultural importance. The last capital of Sinhalese kings until it fell into the hands of the British in 1815, Kandy which is also known as Senkadagalapura was established by the Wickramabahu III (1357-1374 CE). Kandy remains the most sacred Buddhist site in Sri Lanka, perhaps the religious capital of Buddhism since it is the home of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa)- the most venerated Buddhist shrine in the world - and this historic sacred site was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988.

NUWARAELIYA –

Nuwara-Eliya is one of the cities that lie at the highest altitude of Sri Lanka and is popular as a paradise holiday destination. Located in the central hills, 180km away from Colombo, Nuwara-Eliya is a classic example of climate diversity of Sri Lanka. It is also a city where the influence of the British-Colonial architecture is visible.

ELLA –

Ella is a small village of quaint beauty, safely tucked-in amidst the towering peaks of Sri Lanka's central highlands of the Uva province. The sleepy village is nestled in a valley peering straight through Ella Gap to the plain nearly 1000m below and across to the coastline; where on a fine day, you could even catch a glimpse of the Great Basses lighthouse of Southern Sri Lanka. If the view alone wasn't good enough, Ella is also surrounded by hilly countryside perfect for walks; through tea plantations to ancient temples and waterfalls.

THISSAMAHARAMA –

Tissamaharama alias Tissa is a bustling town in south Sri Lanka with a scenic backdrop of the ancient Tissa Wewa, refreshing breeze of which sweeps the town. The breathtaking expanse of paddy fields lying round the town adds much beauty to the town. Located about 38 km northeast of Hambantota, Tissa remained capital of the ancient Ruhunu Kingdom as early as the 3rd century BC. While being a gateway to the Yala national park, Lunugamvehera national park and the Kataragama sacred city, Tissa promises several fine attractions including Tissamaharamaya Dagoba, Tissa Wewa (a tank), Yatala Vehera, and Situlpawwa Vihara.

KATHARAGAMA –

Kataragama is a pilgrimage town popular among Buddhists, Hindus, and indigenous Vedda communities of Sri Lanka and even to South Indians. The town has Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devale, a 15th-century shrine dedicated to Kataragama deity also known as Skanda-Murunkan. The general vicinity of Kataragama has yielded evidence of human habitation at least 125,000 years ago. It has also yielded evidence of Mesolithic and Neolithic habitations.

GALLE –

Blessed with a variety of attractions such as pristine beaches, breathtaking coral reefs, virgin rainforests, the colossal fortress, Galle is a captivating tourist destination in Sri Lanka, situated on the southwestern tip of the island, 119 km south of Colombo. The administrative capital of Southern Province and the district capital of Galle District, Galle is the fourth largest city in Sri Lanka after the capital Colombo, Kandy and Jaffna. Hikkaduwa and Unawatuna are the nearby most popular tourist attractions.

AMBALANGODA –

Mask carving is an indigenous tradition in Ambalangoda, a coastal town 34 km north of Galle. This is a privately-owned museum where a large collection of masks of various kinds is showcased. Nearby is the mask workshop where you can see artisans making masks step by step. There is a guide who will explain you everything about various kinds of masks. It was very interesting to learn about the masks and the history and cultural significance attached to different ones in the collection.
BENTOTA BEACH-
Sprawling under an endless canopy of palm trees, the beaches continue several kilometres south from Bentota. The attractive southern end of Bentota beach, i.e. south of the railway station, comprises a wide & tranquil swathe of sand that's home to one of the island's finest clusters of top-end luxury hotels, tastefully located & set at decent intervals from one another down the coast. Some of the hotels herein provide high quality Ayurvedic healing centres. Some of the most sumptuous places to stay in the entire island are located in these beaches from the resort Bentota to village Induruwa. Induruwa too has a small cluster of places to stay on a lovely, quiet length of beach.
