We received the following photo from Jungdranung School, a small school in WA with only 12 Students. The Principal, Sue Smith also sent through this lovely feedback;

“Once again we are indebted to the generosity that allows the children to receive these books. Yesterday, I was thrilled to have a boy in my class select 'a chapter book'. He is a year four FASD child who has only just begun to read. When he said to me "Chapter books are best", it literally brought tears to my eyes. It has been a long time coming but worth every minute of the waiting!”

Thank you to the generous sponsorship of Billy King for making moments such as these possible! It is such amazing feedback to hear and brings the biggest smile to our faces!

Children who read for fun may do better in the classroom than peers who rarely read.

The stage 2 students at Curran Public School love reading to their buddies volunteering from UWS as part of the UWS Reading Ambassadors Network!
For those that may have missed out on hearing about this exciting venture the University of Western Sydney (UWS)'s highest achieving students in The Academy at UWS now have the opportunity to help primary aged students in their local community who are struggling with their reading. The Academy students have been reading books from the Books in Homes Preview Pack with the primary school students, engaging them in the fun of reading as well as improving their reading confidence and ability!

A great article on the importance of books-of-choice in encouraging children to read and improving their reading ability!

“You become a lifelong reader when you’re able to make choices about the books you read, and when you love the books you read,” Pam Allyn, a literacy advocate, told The Washington Post. “You tend to get better at something you love to do.”
Over the summer, students forget a lot of their literacy skills. Luckily, there’s a straightforward fix.

Story
Tagline
Our vision is to create an Australia where every child and family has access to books of choice at home.
Introduction
Books in Homes Australia was founded on the realisation that failure in adult life often stems from childhoods spent in homes without books. Children who cannot read, become adults who cannot communicate and this is unacceptable in a world that operates on the written word.

The Books in Homes Australia Programme provides a solution for children from less privileged communities to break away from the poverty cycle in which they were born and to instill a love of reading from an early age.
