An ideal way to get a taste for kayaking in the Ten Thousand Islands.
You can explore the wilderness of the Ten Thousand Islands off Florida's Gulf Coast with this short kayak trail to an uninhabited island full of history.

Happy to have this story in the Miami Herald. Check out their redesign; it so improved how photos display.
After Hurricane Charley, this small town on the Peace River rebuilt with an eye toward spiffing up its waterfront downtown.

Latest story for the Miami Herald: I highly recommend this roadtrip along the Indian River. Lagoon. (And that's my photo too!) http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/05/10/4105637/old-florida-discoveries-around.html

Florida Rambler is all about sharing the natural wonders of Florida, but I was tempted to keep this place all to myself.
This little-known river near Orlando has over-the-top scenery where it flows out of Lake Norris. It's an easy paddle worth seeking out for its great beauty.

I am buried in mangoes, and loving it. Here are some of the ways I put them to very good use:

Yay! Hope you enjoy it. I served it to 11 members of my book club as part of my all-mango menu and then took a dish to a party that night, so my vat full of chutney is gone! It keeps along time refrigerated and it freezes really well, too.

One of the most interesting interviews I've done lately: 32-year-old environmentalist Justin Riney, about to paddle off into the Everglades for five months alone. He's afraid of just one thing.

I was enthralled by the Kingsley Plantation in Jacksonsville. It's a beautiful place, but what struck me were the stories of slaves and slave-holders, and an amazing woman who was both. http://www.floridarambler.com/northeast-florida-getaways/kingsley-plantation-slavery-jacksonville-florida/
