Empowering children to take control of their learning
Today my daughter wants to learn about rockets, makeup and trucks. . . Now what? This post explains how this situation would unfold in the near future, and how this will change the world for underserved children. http://www.dev4x.com/blog/2015/7/27/an-open-learning-map-empowering-children-to-take-control-of-their-learning

The amount of effort in the www.Dev4X.com project is really picking up! Together we are bringing education to the poorest children, with a highly scalable Autonomous Self-Schooling platform. Finally we will be able to reach all children!

I would appreciate your help in liking this idea on Open IDEO. It's a competition that requires people to propose solutions on how to teach children in refugee camps. I am a bit late in submitting the idea as there are only two days left, but it also means we have not gotten the traction that other submissions have received that posted their idea a few weeks ago.

Likes do not directly translate into who goes through to the next round or not but the attention we will get will certainly help us find more people that share our vision and passion and may help us further our cause.
Dev4X is an open community project that is developing a self-schooling platform, empowering learners to teach themselves and their friends.

+Dev4X  in conjunction with the iHub in Nairobi, will be hosting a Global Learning XPRIZE focused design sprint on finding innovative solutions to educating the most marginalized children. The event will be held in the iHub considered to the the central technology hub of Eastern Africa so that we can attract the best minds with local contextual awareness to help us solve this challenge.

The goal of the event is to ideate on possible solutions to some of the challenges faced by more than 650 million children that are not getting a basic primary education. Teams will form around problem statements and over the course of the workshop, we will design solutions to these challenges and present them at the end of the event. Collectively we can then implement the best ideas and change education!

If you are in the Area, please come join us on Friday the 5th of June: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dev4x-design-sprint-tickets-16535007653

Just got a shipment of tablets, and a VR cardboard headset. Getting them ready now for our field tests in Kenya next week. +Dev4X is establishing an in country R&D and user research team in East Africa to find the best ways we can develop an autonomous self-schooling platform to empower children to learn, even if they have no access to schools. This will change the world, especially for these children!

+Jan Heinsohn yes I hope to have enough time amongst everything else to post as much as I can. We are working on this project with a radical open approach, not only open source but open team. We need the best minds in the world to help solve this, and the best way to attract those is by doing so openly. I look forward to your input as things progress!

Autonomous Self-Schooling platform.

During May and June I spent a great deal of time in East Africa. My goal was to work with a group of children that had no access to formal education and did not have access to qualified teachers, and figure out how a self-schooling platform could work in their environments. This is what we found: http://www.dev4x.com/blog/2015/6/19/field-testing-in-east-africa

Even with all the good work so many Governments, NGO's and individuals are doing, we will only be able to provide all children a basic primary education by 2086 (UNESCO). That means an additional three generations of children may be lost !

We need to think differently if we are to reach these children while they are still young!

We've been working in Kiberia, a large informal settlement in Nairobi. Here we are working with children who cannot go to school. We are helping these children by finding the best ways we can empower them to be able to teach themselves and for them to teach their friends.
