+Dev4X  in conjunction with the iHub in Nairobi, will be hosting a Global Learning XPRIZE focused design sprint on finding innovative solutions to educating the most marginalized children. The event will be held in the iHub considered to the the central technology hub of Eastern Africa so that we can attract the best minds with local contextual awareness to help us solve this challenge.

The goal of the event is to ideate on possible solutions to some of the challenges faced by more than 650 million children that are not getting a basic primary education. Teams will form around problem statements and over the course of the workshop, we will design solutions to these challenges and present them at the end of the event. Collectively we can then implement the best ideas and change education!

If you are in the Area, please come join us on Friday the 5th of June: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dev4x-design-sprint-tickets-16535007653

Just got a shipment of tablets, and a VR cardboard headset. Getting them ready now for our field tests in Kenya next week. +Dev4X is establishing an in country R&D and user research team in East Africa to find the best ways we can develop an autonomous self-schooling platform to empower children to learn, even if they have no access to schools. This will change the world, especially for these children!

+Jan Heinsohn yes I hope to have enough time amongst everything else to post as much as I can. We are working on this project with a radical open approach, not only open source but open team. We need the best minds in the world to help solve this, and the best way to attract those is by doing so openly. I look forward to your input as things progress!

My partner just did one in Nashville on the importance of correctional education. It was extremely well received. I'm quite certain your talk on dev4x will be a huge hit in LA.

Over the past months our community has grown tremendously and in order to keep up with inflow and outflow of information we have created an open project Wiki: http://www.dev4x.com/blog/2015/3/9/dev4x-open-wiki
This is going to be our new home where you can learn about our latest developments and learn how to contribute your own time and effort on the +Dev4X - Moonshot Education Project
Do you want to help a growing community solve one of the biggest challenges/opportunities of our time? Do you want to  help provide education to those children in extreme poverty, conflict zones, disaster areas or in regions that restrict open education? Image By: Jeff Turner

We can be more innovative, the Open Philosophy

When we have a great idea, the first thing we tend to do is try keep it to ourselves, we protect it, patent it and keep it from others that may 'mess' with it. But does this actually do any good?

By opening up our ideas, and inviting others to take it, make it their own and even better it, drives innovation as we allow the best minds in the world to add their value. Sure it's no longer our's but was it really our's to begin with? Did we really come up with it on our own? are we not standing on the shoulders of the giants that got us all this far already?

The Open Project Map

With an Open Philosophy, we are designing an open-access platform that will allow everyone with the energy and talent, to help educate the world’s children. Instead of keeping it locked up we are being radically open with our approach, ideas and work.

We recently created this interactive map that shows everything that we are doing, for all to see. We are actively encouraging others to better it, to join us and to be more open.

What would happen if we were all more open?

See our Open Map here: http://www.dev4x.com/blog/2015/2/4/the-open-project-map

+Dev4X +The Shuttleworth Foundation Trust
We are tackling the challenge of teaching the world's marginalized children through radical openness. Asking everyone with the energy and talent, to help educate the world’s children. This open community approach requires us to communicate with a wide range of audiences, all interested in slightly different aspects of what we are doing, hence the open map that we are creating.
