If you enjoy the quiet, beauty of the back country in winter, hiking, snowshoeing, ice climbing, AT and nordic skiing, etc.  You should comment on this proposed rule by the US Forest Service!  Their 2005 rule  limited ATV and motorized vehicle use to certain trails and areas, but exempted Over Snow Vehicles (OSV) a/k/a snowmobiles.

The Forest Service lost a law suit and was ordered to promulgate new regulations, and the comment period expires Aug. 4.  The new regulations don't change the status quo and basically set up an arbitrary system where each park and district can either have areas closed unless specifically open (This is model for summer usage and good), or open unless specifically closed - snowmobiles can go anywhere unless the district does a study and determines damaging then can close an area.  The proposed rule is ineffectual and creates an arbitrary system of regulation.  The simplest common sense solution is to remove the exemption for OSV/snowmobiles from the 2005 rule that works well for ATVs.  The Forest Service claims it will lose its discretionary power if they remove the exemption and instead drafted a rule that does nothing and creates framework for arbitrary and conflicting decisions between districts.

If you want to preserve the pristine beauty of the winter back country please comment on the rule.  The Winter Wilderness Alliance, that won the law suite requiring the Forest Service to promulgate the rule has detailed information at their site (link below), a template response, links to scientific research, and links to the Forest Service Comment page.  Please speak up to conserve the back country.

The court ruled that the exemption of over-snow …

Very cool design!
Folding bicycles are wonderful, but by and large they have to strike a compromise: large wheels and limited portability, or small pack-size but with tiny little wheels. This slightly strange hubless bike promises a solution to that problem.

SPOILER ALERT - if didn't seen today's stage of the Tour.

Why I love watching the Tour de France - two riders lead for 221 KM - and then pelaton and sprinters passed them in last 10 M - My heart goes out to them - fighting so hard all day for over 100 miles, and then to be over taken in last approx. 10 yd.
