Question thrown out to the Nexus 5 owners out there. I've grown comfortable using Hangouts as the main app to handle texts through AT&T, but ran into an issue tonight. My AT&T plan covers texts to Puerto Rico, but when I try to send a text through Hangouts, it says you can only text US and Canada. Do I need to download the AT&T messaging app to be able to text outside the US mainland and Canada ?

I'm sorry, but I don't say this very often about seemingly smart and successful people. But ... what an idiot.

At this point, BlackBerry and Windows Phone fans are probably used to having a much smaller selection of apps than their counterparts on iOS and Android..

Guess what happened three days after the end of my 1 year warranty on my Nexus 7? Auto-rotate stopped working. Restart would reorient the screen to portrait, but the only way my Nexus 7 2013 (Lollipop 5.0.1) would flip to landscape was if an app forced it into landscape. Then it took a restart to get it back to portrait.

Researched online and started with downloading "Check My Android" app from the Play Store. ran the sensor diagnostic and found out sensors 1,5, and 7 were not functioning. This includes the accelerometer that reorients the screen. All indications were a hardware issue, out of warranty. I had seen the video of cracking open the back and placing a shim or tape over the ribbon cable, but decided to try everything I could before cracking open the back. And I found something simple that worked for me, and led me to believe this may not be a hardware issue at all.

The process that worked for me ... 1) Go into settings under Accessibility, and turn off auto-rotate, 2) Power down and restart your Nexus, 3) go back into settings under Accessibility, and turn auto-rotate back on. Magically, it is back to normal. I even immediately ran my sensor diagnostics and sensors 1, 5, and 7 are all back online.

Hope it prevents someone else from cracking open their Nexus too.

Why is it commonplace for apps to ask for total access to every function on your phone? I use the American Airlines app to check gates. That's it. But the most recent app update for all intents and purposes asks you to put your phone in a FedEx envelope and give it to American Airlines. Why does an airline app need access to my call logs? All my images and video files? The microphone? My contacts list? Then follows it up with how their access might involve extra charges to your phone. It is an airline app. I'm getting rather tired of companies, when confronted with the fact they are asking for too much, explain how we don't understand and they really would never do anything bad by accessing your microphone, or your photos. The day I believe you really don't want to use the power you have been granted, is the day you stop asking for it.

Anyone have experience dealing with ASUS on a Nexus 7 warranty issue? In general, how was the experience? Good, bad, worst ever? I'm not sure if it is just me, but I've never had an experience like the one I'm going through. Into the second month since starting the process. One ASUS chat rep has even called another ASUS customer rep dealing with my RMA "incompetent". It is totally bizarre.

In case anyone wants to benchmark how long it takes to get ASUS to replace a bad power cable under warranty, it seems to currently stand at 107 days from their receipt of the bad cable. 135 days from the first contact to request an RMA.

Looks like the final Rambo movie is being made, and it will be called "Last Blood". It might be too much to hope for a bit of realism in the final movie, but I was holding out for "Rambo: Blood in my Urine", where Rambo takes on his most determined foe to date -- his own prostate.

Introduction
Christian. Father. Redhead. Overthinker. Capeless superhero. What do people first notice about me? Probably the fact I'm not naked in public.

Graduate of Purdue University with an emphasis in Constitutional Law/Chemistry. Along the way I managed minors in Political Science and Psychology, which qualifies me to officially label government as dysfunctional. If I tutored you in Physics 152, you're welcome. If I graded your Physics 152 lab manuals, I'm sorry. Member of Purdue Legal Aid, and Alpha Chi Sigma. Worked for public radio at Purdue, WBAA, through my entire college life and will always have a place in my heart for public radio and classical music.

The father of a smart, beautiful daughter who means the world to me. We still believe in fairy tales and evermore, even when the world tries to convince us otherwise.

Active Couchsurfer (www.couchsurfing.org) and traveler. If you are on couchsurfing, feel free to pick my brain.

Fair warning. If you hold Steve Jobs up as some kind of god, I will most definitely at some point say something to piss you off. Same goes for Guy Kawasaki. I have a swift, knee-jerk reaction to hubris, narcissism, and self-promotion. I also believe "social" media requires two-way access. If you put me in your circles and your profile is non-public, I will block you. If you try to sell me something: block. If you send me nude pictures or links to porn sites: block and report.

Nice public space. About a mile long mulched walking trail around the lake, and abundant wildlife. Nice mix of sunny and shady areas. Parking is challenging if there is an event in the clubhouse.

Rooms are clean. But will not be staying here again. There are three elevators and it is not enough capacity for the amount of rooms. Stayed for three days. Day one was good. On day two, after waiting for 20 minutes for an elevator, we had to start the day with a 38 flight decent down the stairs. On day three, another 30 minute wait, but we had luggage and was forced to wait. Elevator opened and was full, so we waited another 10 minutes. It put us so late that we had to not go with the original red line plan, and hire an Uber to get to our destination on time. Hotel desk is pleasant, but understaffed. Do not use for business, and add in extra time. Or stay on the lowest floor possible.

Nice clean restaurant. Lots of kids just kind of hanging out, but still room to sit and eat. One group of four teens was asking for our leftover food as we were taking it to the trash bin. Super busy, line time was 3 minutes, but food prep time was closer to 10. Counter staff was very pleasant.

Really liked this place. They have two menus, one is traditional Chinese (beef tripe with pork blood cakes) in a Szechuan style and one is more American Chinese (General Tso's Chicken, garlic beef) . The traditional Asian menu has a wide variety of unique dishes, including duck and rabbit, and entrees of kidney and intestine. If you want to be adventurous, this is a place to go. If you chicken out, I recommend the pot stickers and ask for the traditional dipping sauce which is great. Large portions for the price. And service is very nice.

Food is great, but the waits are long (10 minutes for a seat, 55 minutes for food). As long as you don't mind chatting with your guest for an hour, it is worth the wait. Oh, and very loud at night. Conversation has to rise to the volume of the room. Not a romantic place by any stretch of the imagination.
