Ode to the Bookshop
My favorite independent bookstore Hungry Mind, operated on Grand Avenue in Saint Paul from 1970-2000. I knew Hungry Mind for the last 19 years of its life. Hungry Mind sold the rights to their name in 1999 for a cash infusion. By the following April it assumed the new name Ruminator Bookstore. Four years hence the Ruminator space was replaced with a local branch of the upscale clothier Patagonia. So goes the bookshop.
Now my reading oracle is the iPad mini. I miss the sanctuary of the bookshop, the smell of the book stock, the feel of the paper, and the sound of a page turning.
The Bookshop has a thousand books,
All colors, hues, and tinges,
And every cover is a door
That turns on magic hinges.
