Back in January I had the pleasure of shooting images for the packaging for a new beer from my friends at #smuttynosebrewingco  in Portsmouth, NH.

I spent a day photographing people jumping in a bouncy house for the labels and packaging of their new Session IPA called, not coincidently, Bouncy House.

Here is an announcement of the May beer, with some shots of the labels. And look for a blog post about the day soon. Complete with video from the day's shoot!

Welcome to Lowell, Massachusetts

When I was growing up in #Lowell most of the mill buildings were in a state that was approaching this.. They were either underutilized or neglected. Since a revitalization effort was launched in the late 70s, most of those great old buildings have been renovated into commercial or residential property.

This building is one of the very few holdouts, but that is about to change.  I just found out that it will be undergoing much needed renovation this year.

You can bet that I will be back here before construction begins.

This was shot with the #olympus   #omd-em1  and processed with #niksilverefexpro2 .

Here is a shot from the Washington Mill in Lawrence from back in 2010.The last company to occupy that particular building recycled paper scraps, pulping it into new, recycled paper products. It is still empty and in serious need of renovation. But only after I get another shot at photographing it.

On my my last visit (which I hope won’t be my last visit) to Austin, Nevada I walked the short mile or so up and down main street shooting the buildings. Most of those shots were fairly mundane. After a cursory pass through the resulting, I pretty much moved on to more exciting images. So I was thrilled to find this one when I revisited the catalog.

The composition (finally) caught my eye. I liked what the 14mm prime lens did to the lines and angles – further distorted my the fact that the road was going uphill to the right. I liked the way the hard angles played against twisted branches of the trees. And I liked all the little things I picked up as my eyes wandered through the frame – the ‘antique’ sign, the things hanging on the store walls, the vault door, the angel weathervane and the church in the background.

I went to the Photographica show in Wakefield, MA this morning with +Mike Tully  I bought an antique Kodak art deco folding camera from around 1933. It is in near pristine condition and gorgeous.

I thought I should do a portrait of it.

A shot from an antique car show I visited last fall. I think it is a Ford Thunderbird. I know it has Power Steering.

A long exposure image I shot about a year ago at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.

I must do more of this style. Without a doubt.

I've been going back through older images looking for hidden gems (images I originally overlooked) and looking at others differently.

Here is one I looked at differently. I processed it in HDR originally nut saw it in black and white this time around. In fact, I've been seeing a lot of things in black and white lately!

Anyway, it was processed in #Nik   #silverefexpro2 , which does an incredible job of pulling out details and texture from the shadows of a single RAW file.

Check out the before and after.

Introduction
I was born, raised and still reside in the Boston area.

I am a passionate photography and an avid runner.

A good portion of my photographic work over the past couple of years has been dedicated to capturing images of the mills and other architectural and industrial artifacts of the 19th century. It is part urban exploration, part preservation photography..

Of course, its not all I shoot. I enjoy shooting other old and forgotten buildings, landscapes, cityscapes, architecture and people.

As runner, I've completed over 30 marathons with a personal best of 2:58. In 2004, I ran from San Francisco to Boston as part of a relay team of 10 runners. The run raised over $300,000 for various children's charities.
