OK G+, here's your chance to beat [other social network], which has failed me.

Long ago, my good friend put together an eclectic mixtape for me that I loved.  The tape is long gone but I'm trying to reconstruct it. This is a rough transcription from memory of (the main section of) one song on that tape. It was all instrumental, with a lot of horns and percussion. Can anyone tell me what song this is?

A provocative essay, the gist of which is that we're too slavishly devoted to the Constitution's particularities.  Things would work more smoothly if we relaxed a bit and were less fundamentalist in our interpretation of it.  The big open question is this: what are the general undergirding principles that should guide us when constitutional specifics shouldn't?

"Labour doesn't get to win all its arguments, capital doesn't get to. But it's in the tension, it's in the actual fight between the two, that capitalism actually becomes functional"
The creator of The Wire, David Simon, delivered an impromptu speech about the divide between rich and poor in America at the Festival of Dangerous Ideas in Sydney, and how capitalism has lost sight of its social compact. This is an edited extract

This is the best overview for laymen of the Standard Model I've ever seen, by far.
The Standard Model of particle physics is a triumph of science. It's a collection of 17 particles, and four forces. Physicists like to call it "elegant" but to the untrained eye, it looks anything but. Where does this all come from? In this week's Ask a Physicist, we'll find out.
