We rented a car and drove up to this beautiful remote resort. Lovely staff, made us feel welcomed and very hospitable. Did two excursions with them, had a blast and never will forget it. Loved their traditional food. Their pools and gardens were gorgeous. Loved taking night walks and spotting wildlife along their grounds. Worth the drive and great deal.

Pros: beautiful property, pools were nice, room was large and clean. It is a good place to go for a relaxing getaway. Cons: very remote, the road to the hotel can take up to 2 hours from the airport depending on the driver. Food is bland and on the expensive side. Transportation provided by the resort was expensive. During certain seasons not all tours are available so plan accordingly.

Hi Daniel - thanks for taking the time to review us. We are thrilled to learn you enjoyed your time here. Please permit me to respond to the "cons". Mother Nature and our guests' safety always dictate whether an outdoor tour can go forward. Regarding restaurant prices, compared to elsewhere in CR our are reasonable and the best we can do. Same for transportation (for which there are alternatives). Again, with great appreciation. We hope to see you return soon. Yours Truly, Kevin

My wife and I had a great time there. The reservations were easy, they scheduled a pick up for us at Liberia airport and the staff is really friendly with good English. The cabin rooms are very nice with good a/c. Maid service is good. The mud bath was fun and the pools with volcanic waters were hot. There is a cold pool for cooling off. We rode horses to the falls and then hiked up. The horses are not national park concession type horses, they are really fun to ride. The food and service in the restaurant was very good. The pepper steak filet is exceptional. There is internet only in the restaurant. There is no english tv. The nature trails were very nice. There is a dino park there now but we did not tour it. From the outside it looked like full size dinos. The locals we met at a souvenir stand and tienda were very nice. The price was good and this was a very nice place to unwind. There are lots of places you can go hike in the area. The mountain allows you to really see the stars. The other American guests were really nice people.

Hola and thank you for your kind comments which are shared with the entire staff. I'd just like to correct that the satellite TV offers several English channels and programs - but hey, that isn't why we come here. Also, the Dino Park is now full of life-size dinosaurs moving inside the rain forest, a great family experience. Again, greatly appreciated and we sincerely hope you return soon.

I visited this beautiful resort 2 weeks ago and I must say it is amazing! Staff is bilingual and very helpful! Restaurant is delicious and also sells bottled drinks so you don't have to go to the market. While there I rode waterslide at least 50 times lol, used the volcanic ash mud bath and mineral hot springs (life-changing), and did a couple activities. Dino Park was great and a fun little hike... also did the waterfall hike which I highly recommend because you actually get to go swimming in it! Gorgeous. If you're visiting Costa Rica definitely spend a few days here!

My partner and I rented a car and travelled everywhere northwest of San Jose and we stopped here for two nights. Very beautiful property! Staff were very friendly. The food was alright. If you find yourself northeast of Liberia this is a nice place to checkout. We booked an outing to check out a waterfall nearby and had a great time.

Pros: beautiful area, unique experience in the rain forest, arrived early and a room was ready for us, allowed us to leave a day early as little to do with the bad weather, loved the fact that there were a few horses roaming the grounds, easy to get an appt. at the spa, refrigerator & coffee maker in room Cons: the route includes about an hour drive on a remote dirt road, only one restaurant, wifi does not work anywhere which adds to the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, rainy & cold (in January) which meant a black mold and slippery on everything, basically in a very remote area, when it rains as it did when we were there - the tin on the window awnings is extremely loud especially at 4:30 am, there is no lobby, bed squeeked loudly when you rolled over and was pulled from the wall on purpose, extra buffet breakfast extremely expensive, the volcano is about an hour and a half away- not sure why it is advertised as part of the Blue River Resort, have no idea where the dinosaur park is, hammock on our cabana porch was broken, probably plenty of other places for similar experience than here

Beautiful location, the hummingbirds fly all around you, however the hot springs are warm at best and the mud bath is disappointing.
Response from the owner - 2 months ago
Hola! Thanks for taking the time to post your review. This is the first time I've received feedback like that about the pools and mud bath. We are investigating this and sharing your review with the entire staff. The water is pumped from sink holes containing 60 degrees centigrade mineral hot springs which is filtered and then mixed with fresh water to control the temperature throughout the day. Again, I'm sorry. Yours truly, Kevin
