Pool water clarity is dependent on two things: the effectiveness of the filter and the chemical balance in the pool. The pool’s filter provides 85% of the water clarity and the chemicals used to treat a pool add the other 15%. Chemicals or filters alone cannot keep a pool clear. If the filter media is old it may need replacing. If the pool ‘balance’ is wrong it needs fixing. The problem usually associated with a cloudy pool is a filter media filter. A D.E. filter may need a manual cleaning, a sand filter may need backwashing or replacement of the sand, a cartridge filter usually always requires replacement of the cartridges. If the pool water chemistry is okay, it’s time to perform maintenance on the filter.

When should you resurface your pool?

1. If the concrete in your pool is discolored and difficult to clean.
2. The surface of your pool is rough. Once the surface begins breaking down it will only worsen.
3. You are constantly refilling your pool.

How do you make your pool useable year round? Add a heating system!

Most solar pool heating systems include the following:

- A solar collector -- the device through which pool water is circulated to be heated by the sun

- A filter -- removes debris before water is pumped through the collector

- A pump -- circulates water through the filter and collector and back to the pool

- A flow control valve -- automatic or manual device that diverts pool water through the solar collector.

Pool water is pumped through the filter and then through the solar collector(s), where it is heated before it is returned to the pool. In hot climates, the collector(s) can also be used to cool the pool during peak summer months by circulating the water through the collector(s) at night.

What are the best ways to keep your chid safe around a pool?

1. Never leave a child unattended in or near water.
2. Teach children how to swim.
3. Teach children to stay away from drains.
4. Ensure all pools and spas - both in your backyard and any public pool you may visit - have compliant drain covers.
5. Install proper barriers, covers and alarms on and around your pool and spa.
6. Know how to perform CPR on children and adults.

Are you concerned about the effect #HurricaneMatthew might have on your pool? Blue Ribbon Pools is here to assist you. We understand that as a home owner your pool might be the last thing on your list to prepare. Call us 24 hours a day, seven days a week for all of your pool needs. Do you feel like you are constantly have to refill your pool? With temperatures reaching almost 100 degrees- you could be victim to evaporation… losing almost an inch of water per week. But how do you prevent this? Covering your pool is one option, lowering the temperature of your pool is another. If there are any cracks in the tile or pool deck you could be losing water through these holes. If you notice any soiled areas around the pool, pumps, or plumbing this could be an indication that your pool is leaking. If you feel your pool may be leaking, call Blue Ribbon Pools.
