"Many families struggle with issues in and around the classroom, for this reason we have invested a lot in an environment focused on creating educational success.

Unlike other wilderness programs, BlueFire’s educational focus is based in a simple process:"

"Many teens don’t get enough sleep, teen sleep deprivation is somewhat of a plague in our society with the average sleep time for a teen not even reaching 7 hours. Whether this is because of too much homework, anxiety surrounding studying, or just staring at a screen too far into the night, it’s a major issue."

"There’s a hard fact to face: not a lot of support exists for struggling parents. What you think would be a national priority is often ignored. Parents who can’t help their struggling children thrive are often looked at as “bad” or “uncaring” parents–but that’s not usually the case. Many parents just don’t know what to do and there aren’t many resources for them to actually turn to for help in learning positive parenting tips, coping skills, and more. Science Daily recently published an article discussing the need for more parenting resources nationally."

"ADHD is one of the most common disorders among young people–as a teen wilderness therapy program, we’re very familiar with this issue and the problems that can arise with it. While both boys and girls are diagnosed with ADHD quite often, how it works in young girls is less understood than in boys. A new study may shed some light on the problems young girls diagnosed with ADHD face, though."

"As one of the leading wilderness programs for youth, BlueFire’s staff have a high level of expertise in the area of staying safe and having fun in the wilderness. The winter and summer are the two harshest seasons of the year, but also offer some of the most fun activities. Each one requires a certain amount of knowledge to enjoy wilderness activities and therapeutic benefits in a secure way with minimum risk involved."

"It’s not really news that our nation has a school bullying problem. As the rise of technology has given us tons of new tools for good, it has also made it easier for bullies to reach their targets. The school system has increased its efforts in deterring bullying, but more can and should be done. Bullying has the ability to negatively impact a child emotionally, physically, and academically.

The effects of bullying don’t stop when an adolescent steps off the school bus and into the home, they follow them wherever they go–especially with the help of technology."

"It’s normal for parents to worry about teenage drinking. According to tons of studies, alcohol is more of a gateway to harder drugs than marijuana–which is worrying because many more teenagers drink rather than smoke marijuana. By the age 18, 65 percent of teens would have had at least one alcoholic drink. Obviously, this is a huge issue for parents. Teenage drinking can lead to many complications down the road–but there may be a new way to dissuade teens from alcohol. In a recent Live Science article, a new study found a pretty effective way to keep teenage drinking down."

"Rolling Stone recently interviewed Chris Evans–otherwise known as Captain America–who opened up about his anxiety from big, flashy hollywood social situations. The public views Chris Evans is known as the put-together, successful, all-American superhero. In reality, though, he grapples with anxiety like many, many other Americans. In the interview, he opened up about his issues with over-analyzing situations, getting overwhelmed in large events, and making smalltalk. A public figure as well-known and beloved as Chris Evans has the ability to shift the public’s view on youth mental health."

"Our adventure therapy also helps students make new connections with their peers and staff. Parents and extended families often comment that their child is disconnecting from families and friends, often hiding in rooms or burying themselves in phones and other electronics. Unlike other wilderness therapy programs, BlueFire removes these electronic temptations and the daily struggles back home, providing a chance for clients to interact with others. Throughout the therapeutic experience, clients share videos and other communication with their family back home to help repair and rebuild those relationships, as well."

"Video games are rapidly becoming more realistic and immersive. They can provide whole other worlds and platforms for adolescents to explore, problem-solve, and discover. Studies show video games can definitely have a positive impact–but only if used in healthy doses. As a parent, you know that teens don’t always take things in healthy doses, usually they over do it, actually. It can get to the point that a teen ignores sleep, social interaction, and even food. This is when video game addiction treatment becomes necessary.

Many things are important during the video game addiction treatment process, but relationships hold a hefty amount of significance."
