A 600kW "energy kite"!

A few weeks ago, we gave you a sneak peek of our 600kW energy kite as we moved it out into the world. Now we’re ready to test it, starting this month here in Northern California.

We’ve already tested the 600kW energy kite’s subsystems over the past few months, and this will be the first time we see how everything works together. While we can’t wait to see our new energy kite fully in action, we’re going to start off slowly by testing things incrementally. We need to get to know our energy kite first, and have it complete individual tasks successfully before giving it more advanced tasks. This means repeatedly performing functions as basic as powering the kite’s motors on and off, or getting the kite to hover with shorter tethers before we use a full-length tether. By testing close to our Alameda headquarters, our team will be able to quickly solve any issues that come up. Our engineers and scientists may even end up rapidly redesigning and rebuilding components as needed to ensure we have the best energy kite possible before we head off to Hawaii for our pilot project.

Check out these photos of our team completing final tests of our subsystems while putting the finishing touches on our 600kW energy kite.

High hopes for +Dan Kaplan's podcast on the future of humanity: http://t.co/vrNhi1WNIG #humanecology #urbantech
The story of how we transcend our weaknesses and build a world of abundance, self-determination, and peace…instead of scarcity, totalitarianism, and war.

Awesome to see some real electric bike innovation. Kickstarter $1300-1600.
A new electric bike — the Koben, from Karmic Bikes — promises to fix what ails the electric bicycle industry. We spoke to its designer to find out what those problems are, and how he thinks he’s solved them.

A good clip on +Tim Ferriss. Excited to see how he's developed in recent years. He brings many areas of mutual interest together for me. I'd highly recommend his latest interviews such as Glenn Beck; which will surprise, inspire and entertain anyone.

Watch out school districts, you're next on the chopping block as incumbents go when facing the Silicon Valley mindset. AltSchool is breaking out! "Schools today, Ventilla says, cater to the lowest common denominator, teaching to the middle instead of to each individual child. He refers to this problem as “the tyranny of majority” and says it’s a pervasive issue in schools that’s as worrisome as it is understandable. “If I asked you to go teach twenty 9-year olds, some who don’t want to be in that classroom, and all of whom have very different interests and needs, fluctuating throughout the day, you’d probably also reinvent this factory model we use in education,” he says. “You’d break the day up into 45-minute segments. You’d move the kids along, and if anyone is disruptive, you’d admonish them, or if they’re zoned out and bored, you’d move on and wait until the buzzer goes off each period.” #hackedu #edtech

A pretty hilarious post about +LaCroix Sparkling Water. I prefer plain sparkling but am happy this has gotten my wife and many off the evil sodas and diet drinks.

Not quite Eastern but a useful practice nonetheless. Beware of the charlatans. Caveat emptor.

Looking forward to launching +Vinli Developers in Dubai and MENA region! Great to see STEP and startup ecosystem taking off.
Dubai looks like what would happen if Donald Trump played Minecraft: ever more ridiculous towers bursting forth from the sand, steel and glass everywhere. At night, it feels like the ...

Love the location, coffee and baristas. Adjoining taco joint could use a lesson from Austin legends like Torchy's - just sayin.

Went with a Groupon and hard to argue to get them to accept the terms which ruined an otherwise nice meal. Katy Trail location is much nicer.
