Hacker Target: DC
By Harry Sverdlove

"We are seeing a disturbing trend in advanced attacks where domain controllers are being explicitly, and successfully, targeted. This is not surprising, given the motivations behind nation-state and well organized cyber espionage. Advanced persistent threats, or APTs, are attacks targeting information – any information. The attackers are engaged in long term campaigns to infiltrate organizations across the spectrum and siphon as much intellectual property as they can about everything from chemical formulas, top secret military data, or reports on global economic conditions. Instead of directly targeting the servers housing this information, the attackers are targeting the domain controllers to gain access to all systems within a company. Why steal a single car at the valet parking when you can steal the entire lock box and all of its keys?"
