New campaign to fight night time and football litter

Birmingham City Council, together with behaviour change charity Hubbub, are launching a new and innovative anti-litter campaign.

Part of the council’s wider Cleaner Greener Streets campaign, this initiative will focus on night time littering and aims to prevent football fans from throwing their rubbish on the street during this summer’s European Championships games.

City of Colours street art festival launches this week!

One of the UK's largest celebrations of graffiti, street art and urban culture returns to Digbeth, Birmingham on 18 June. This multi-cultural, award-winning event, brings together communities from across the city and further afield, transforming the area into one of the world's largest outdoor art galleries. An event for all the family, the festival will be spread over 15 venues, with ten music stages, a large range of exciting performances and participatory activities, huge market hall and a range of tasty street food.

You can look forward to cinema screenings, workshops in graffiti art, break-dance, DJing, spoken word, retro gaming, screen-printing – and a huge doodle wall will be available throughout the weekend for everyone to get involved. The market hall will host a huge affordable art sale.

Parade of Champions will celebrate legendary athletics performances in Birmingham

As the best of Britain’s current Olympic hopefuls look forward to winning their place in Team GB for the Rio Olympics at the British Championships on 24-26 June, former Olympic bronze medallist and Commonwealth champion Kelly Sotherton today became the first athlete to be commemorated in Birmingham’s ‘Parade of Champions’.

The ‘Parade of Champions’ will celebrate the array of the world’s greatest athletes who have competed in Birmingham. The ‘Parade’ begins by honouring Sotherton and will be completed to mark Birmingham hosting the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2018.
