Many more workers may soon be eligible for overtime pay. Obama has proposed changes to overtime regulation that more than doubles the pay threshold at which employers can avoid paying overtime, which currently sits at only $455/week, or $23,660/year. They would receive 1.5 times their regular pay for any work beyond 40 hours/week.

A bill offering hope to terminally ill patients in NC unanimously passed both the House and the Senate, a very rare feat. The "Right to Try" bill allows the terminally ill (with a doctor's rec.) to try experimental treatments not yet approved by the FDA. http://ow.ly/OUvU1

Biomedical engineers at UNC and NC State are developing a patch that monitors oxygen levels in the blood and releases insulin when needed. Diabetes patients would no longer need to constantly test their blood or inject insulin because the patch would do it for them through painless "microneedles." http://ow.ly/OOhgL

It can be used to make concrete stronger without harming soil or water. “Americans shouldn’t have to ask the government for permission to try to save their own lives." - president of the Goldwater Institute.

A "Right to Try" bill passed in the NC Senate and is now in the House. It would nullify the need for terminally ill patients to get the FDA's approval on experimental treatments. http://ow.ly/OspE3

NC activists recently walked 283 miles from NC to Washington, D.C. to draw awareness to 283 rural hospitals that are at risk of closure right now. Many have recently been closed due to underfunding, leading to tragedies that could have been avoided and a lack of sufficient care for rural North Carolinians. http://ow.ly/Ommqh
