Schatz made 3 sizes of 400 day clock: Standard, Miniature and Midget. The Standard 400 day says "49" on the back inside a circle, the miniature says "53", and the midget says "JUM/7". Can anyone tell me what "JUM/7" means?

The midget 400 day clock is slightly shorter than the miniature. I recently repaired a midget dated 9 62 (September 1962), and its height without the dome is 5 9/16 inches.

The midget movement has a pin-pallet escapement instead of a Graham deadbeat.

Repair job 6631. I polished the pivots, smoothed some damaged teeth on the mainspring barrel, and replaced the suspension spring. I used a 0.0022 inch thick Horolovar suspension spring (a previous clock of the same model I repaired (see Schatz Midget 400 Day Clock Made in 1968). needed a 0.0023 inch thick spring (I'm not sure if the difference was in the suspension springs or the pendulum).

Here's a 400 day clock I restored back in 1988. It still looks good and works! This clock, with the smaller diameter disc  pendulum, uses a .0035 inch thick Horolovar suspension spring.

This is the second of three matching 400 day clocks that were in my shop at the same time.

Horolovar back plate number 1260. Made around 1910.

Here's a nice, all-original Ansonia oak "kitchen" clock I repaired.
I repaired this Ansonia "Burton" oak shelf clock. It is in nice, all-original condition including dial and door glass. About 35% of the label on the back of the case

Here's a nice old "Long drop" octagon wall clock in oak case that I repaired recently.
Here's a nice example of a Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. oak long drop octagon wall clock named "Consort." It has an 8-day time only movement. The case is 32 inches tall

I recently repaired this Seth Thomas electric steeple clock that was made in 1950. The date code on the bottom of the case is 5010 (November 1950). The date code on the back of the movement is 5004 (April 1950). This clock is 15 1/4 inches tall and 9 1/8 inches wide. This clock is similar to another one I worked on, but the case top is more pointed, making it taller (see Seth Thomas Electric Steeple Clock with Hour and Half-Hour Striking, 1947). This clock strikes the hour and half-hour, and has a movement similar to that described in previous post just mentioned.

Repair job 6384. I polished the pivots, installed 16 bushings, and replaced the mainspring.

Here is a Jahresuhrenfabrik (JUF for short) 400 day clock made around 1902. It has a disc pendulum, small dial, and delicate spade hands. It has beautifully turned finials above the dial.

I repaired this clock, and fixed some problems caused by previous repair work.

The "arch" of the clock (the decorative part with the finials above the dial) was secured to the clock with GLUE, as one screw hole didn't have a shoulder for the screw to bear on. I inserted a bushing in that hole to repair it.

This clock has an unusual anchor (the part that goes back and forth as the clock ticks). Most JUF clocks have a solid-body anchor, but this one has adjustable pallets like most other makers use.

Repair job 6585. I polished a few pivots. The 0.004 inch thick suspension spring was good, but I adjusted it to hang straight in the upper block and adjusted the location of the fork. The hand set tension washer had a hole that was too big, causing it to bear on the front plate, causing friction that would stop the clock. I installed a new tension spring. I installed a Horolovar 19 x 36 mainspring.

Here’s a most beautiful Seth Thomas Adamantine mantel clock I repaired. My customer polished the case, and I repaired the movement, gently cleaned and lacquered the case ornaments, and cleaned the dial. The case background color is tan, with deep red lines and swirls, and some orange swirls too.

Here's a most beautiful Seth Thomas Adamantine mantel clock I repaired. My customer polished the case, and I repaired the movement, gently cleaned and lacquered the case ornaments, and cleaned the dial.

The case background color is tan, with deep red lines and swirls, and some orange swirls too. The dial is embossed brass. The date code on the bottom of the case is 5981 C (March 1895).

The clock strikes the hour and half-hour on a heavy coil gong (often called Cathedral gong). The movement is the 8-day "hip" movement (called that because of its shape). It has an American type "strip" recoil escapement in the back.

The case is 17 inches wide and 11 1/2 inches tall.

Repair job 6437. I made new rivets for the clicks, secured the regulator pinion to its arbor, polished the pivots, and installed 14 bushings. The mainsprings are original, and are as follows:

Time Mainspring: 11/16 inch wide by 0.0195 inch thick

Strike Mainspring: 11/16 inch wide by 0.0187 inch thick

These mainsprings seem thick, but had not caused much wear to the mainwheel teeth. If the springs needed replacing, thinner new ones should be used.

Here is an interesting Kern 400 day clock with the signs of the Zodiac around the center of the dial. I overhauled the movement, replaced the suspension spring, and polished and lacquered the base and pillars. I don't receive as many Kern 400 day clocks for repair as Schatz and Kundo clocks. I'm guessing this clock was made in the mid-1950s.

Repair job 6485. I polished the pivots, installed a new suspension spring (unit 11A with 0.0036 inch thick Horolovar suspension spring). I installed a new 18 x 38 mainspring.
