Yesterday the Red Cross held an Oahu wide Emergency Shelter Exercise in which they simiulated opening 20 plus shelters. I was the shelter manager at Castle High School. Bob Harter shared his extensive knowledge with us. HAM radio set up communications. We learned how to document shelter management. In the PM we met at McKinley to discuss the practical aspects of registering everyone who enters the shelter, dealing with people with special problems. We went to a class room designated for a shelter. Capacity 30 students. Trying to visulize 75 people in the room with windows and doors closed for 12 hrs. One wall composed of louvers which will blow out when the wind reaches 120 mph. How are people going to go to the toilet when they cannot go outside. How are you going to handle feces and urine.
