Nice.  It looks like there was some retroactive part too.  If only it was retroactive to ALL of the flights you've taken over the past few years.  :-)
It is about time.

An interesting read.  The upshot is that multiple screen sizes and multiple storefronts (heterogeneity in general) make it harder to write a good and profitable port.  We'll see what happens when (if you believe the rumors) the next gen iPhone adds one more screen size to the 2 current iOS targets...but at least you can count the variants on one hand.
The first comment on stories about popular iOS games is invariably the question about Android availability. Is the game coming to Android? Why isn't the game already on Android? Doesn't the de...

Still, there's a relatively small number of resolutions and, more importantly, aspect ratios, so it's easier than designing, say, Windows apps that have to run in arbitrarily-sized windows. Resolution independence is also important for forward compatibility (again, see Windows for a fine example of doing it wrong; also: iPhone apps on iPad, anybody?) and a challenge Web pages and browsers have had to address for some time now.

I don't necessarily agree with everything he says here, but this is not the first time I've seen the university system compared to the housing bubble.
This is what I see when i think about higher education in this country today: Remember the housing meltdown ? Tough to forget isn’t it. The formula for the housing boom and bust was simple. A lot of easy money being lent to buyers who couldn’t afford the money they were borrowing. That money was then spent on homes with the expectation that the price of the home would go up and it could easily be flipped or refinanced at a profit. Who cares if yo...

You have a job and it has a name. A name of convenience. It exists so that when someone asks, "What do you do?" you can simply say, "I am a software engineer" rather than saying, "Well, there are these things called computers and computers run software and humans write software and I am one of those humans". Chances are, you also have a title. It was given to you when you first arrived at your fine company and you probably didn't think about it...

Why would you think that? I see no similarities. Maymo is rather poorly behaved!

There's been lots of buzz on the topic of whether or not you should learn to code. As an engineer, I don't have unbiased thoughts on the matter. I tweeted Jeff Atwood's piece because, well, I agree that it's pretty silly to think that the world is going to be a better place if the Mayor of New York City learns how to code. I agree with Atwood that his valuable time would be better spent elsewhere. I believe there are essential skills you learn a...
