Ok gang, today marks the official start of the Bike Commuter Cabal 500 Miles / 800 km in July Challenge.  All rides count, commuting, group rides, rides to the store, we are counting all everything.  Can you do it?

+1 or drop a comment here if you would like to follow this group challenge throughout the month of July, and if you would like to join us, check in to this event

There is a public spreadsheet linked there for use in tracking our progress.

Me?  I might get a mile or two today just in dialing in the Tarmac, then I kick it off big tomorrow with a 111 mile circuit through the Maryland countryside.

Good luck to all!

Should be about 95 with no shade and no cloud cover or possible rain until the afternoon.  Yeah I'm nuts.
some errands on tap for today. may start doing errands weekday evenings as well to bump up the miles a bit...There is also an outdoor concert series. Can't log my miles yet though as I have no cyclometer on my main day to day bike. It should come in Thursday and I will retrace all my pedal strokes the following week so I can be accurate.
What region of MD will you be in? One of my favorite rides in the area is up near Thurmont.
I'll be over to the east, the missus is dropping me off at the eastern end of the Bay Bridge on Kent Island in Stevensville, I am riding to Cecil County by way of Chesapeake City on country roads paralleling 301 to the west.
+Ben Folsom I agree that commuting, errands, road, mtb, and fitness miles should count.  But counting miles gained by spinning the wheels while the bike is on a workstand could be stretching the spirit of the event.  ;-D
Ok, I'm in. It's going to be a stretch given my schedule this month, but goals aren't much good if they're too easy!

65 miles so far for me.

I don't know what the deal is with the no beer thing, but I'm going to just pretend I didn't hear anything about that... Although with the fresh homemade ginger beer that I've been making recently around along with homemade tonic water and various bitters from a friend, I've been on a bit more of a cocktail kick recently than beer...
