The Karma Of Happiness +Happy Day Productions
The Karma of Happiness Feature Film pitch deck +Happy Day Productions

(Based on the Award-Winning Short)
by Summer Moore

Every ounce of pain that I see comes from serving myself and every happiness I see comes from serving others. -Master Shantideva 700AD

Project Summary

Logline

In a world where bad things happen to good people, a pragmatic hard workingwoman discovers the secret to happiness is not just luck.

Synopsis

Across the globe, there are three common themes people are searching to have in their lives: health, relationship, and money. The traditional method most people follow to be happy is to look out for “number one.” The Karma of Happiness is a story told from a different perspective. What if the answer to getting the things people want most in life is different than what people instinctually do? What if there was a way that worked 100% of the time? Enter Madison.

Madison Wright has a life that isn't quite 'right.’ Like most, she feels there isn’t much hope for a change in her mundane life. She tries to get things to go her way by grasping at straws, while getting older day-by-day.

After a brutal night of embarrassment in front of her entire family and being reprimanded by her hilariously religious southern mother, Madison wakes up to her day starting in the worst way possible…in a panic. Her alarm never went off due to her video game addicted, slacker boyfriend, Todd, neglecting to set it.

Synopsis Project Summary

Running out the door late to work, Madison bumps into her awkward neighbor who is obsessed with aliens. Oblivious to him that she does not want to talk to him EVER, he blocks her from leaving so he can flirt with her. Irritated she tells him off and makes a break for it. Madison reaches her car and finds that it was the subject of a recent prank. Every inch of it is covered in sticky notes. Can things get any worse? Why yes they can!

As Madison sprints into the boardroom, she finds a boss that is very unhappy to see her so late. Up for a big promotion, arriving late does not increase her chances of success. Vying against her is her arch nemesis, Erica, who cannot seem to do any wrong in the boss’s eyes. Erica is elated that Madison is late to work. One more point for Erica. Check!

Madison’s day continues to go downhill. She receives bad news from her doctor. She cannot have children.

Synopsis Project Summary

Madison blows the presentation that her career hinges upon and Erica gets the promotion instead. Madison’s left feeling that she does not deserve what is happening in her life. The silver lining is that it is “Date Night.” Madison hopes a little romance will take her mind off all the bad luck she has been encountering as of late; BUT Todd has other plans. He blows off their date for “Bros Night” instead.

Her boss calls Madison to meet at a restaurant. He fires her which leads to her making a scene and being thrown out, as she finds Todd cheating.

Feeling hopeless, she walks home alone. Why do bad things happen to good people? Why are all these things happening that she doesn’t deserve? Will her luck ever change? But who needs luck, when one is given an angel coin by a passing stranger! Little does Madison know that the coin will lead to the closed doors in her life to be opened and the questions she has been asking all along to be answered.

Madison lays her head on her pillow that night and has a dream with her “Hashtag Man Crush,” a hunky A-lister movie star, who appears shirtless with rippling muscles. He lets her in on the secret of his identity…that he is really God. Who would have ever guessed God would look like this and have such a sense-of-humor? He teaches her about the secret of karma and how it works like a boomerang, what comes around goes around.

Mumbling about her “Hashtag Man Crush” in her dream, she abruptly wakes up and jumps out of bed in the exact replay of the day before. Noticing that it seems all too familiar, she is forced to replay the day again. Madison rushes off to work. The bad day yesterday was erased and it is a new day. God appears throughout the day guiding her to not make the same mistakes again.

Synopsis Project Summary

Embarking upon the lessons that are taught to her, Madison begins to see a transformation. No longer will she say that her life is not what she expected, as she now has the control to change it. By helping the people around her, she changes her world. She learns to take responsibility that she was the cause of the bad things happening in her life and only by giving to others first the things that she desires most in life, will she be able to get what she wants out of life. Thus she designs a life of her dreams.

In a cross between Groundhogs Day and Bruce Almighty, The Karma of Happiness is a comedic take on how an ordinary life of not getting what they want can be transformed into a life that is filled with dreams coming true. In a time when the world is struggling to find it’s way, The Karma of Happiness leaves audiences filled with the hope of a new method to change each individual who follows it and thus heal the world, so that each person isn’t just out for themselves, but instead helping the “whole.”
