Every year I choose a cause to stand behind and this one grabbed my attention. Children are our best hope for protecting the environment for future generations and I think this comic book can help do just that. There are only 13 days left in the campaign, so act quickly. If you can't spare a few dollars, please reshare and lets see if we can help this project get off the ground. Thanks!!

Women don't hike? "Insert expletive here."

#hiking #outdoors

Today I attended the Florida Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) conference in Panama City conducted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and partner agencies. There was a wealth of information, workshops and discussions. The only thing that didn't set well with me though, was during one question and answer segment, the speaker made the statement that the majority of hikers were middle-aged white males. I had to speak up right then and there...  I'm a woman and I hike. I kayak. I bicycle. I camp. I fish. I also know a lot of women that get out there to do the same activities. I can't believe that this is a hard fact. Any ladies out there want to weigh in?

So, I went to look at a lakefront property today in the hopes of finally purchasing a little weekend getaway spot where I could wet a line...  however beautiful the lake may be, the area leading to it was far too sketchy; the dirt road was in danger of washing out, "danger", "video surveillance", "photo enforced", and "trespassers will be prosecuted" signs littered the "roadway" leading to the lots and it looked like someone had actually placed a gate across the the road preventing access to the lots on the other side (not all owned by the same person.) In addition to that, the property before the one I was interested in looked like a squatter town. Sad really. My quest continues.

Like reading? Check out my friend Del's latest on Amazon.

Whew. I've been working on it six months and it's finally done. My latest, on Kindle. "The Fire People," a collection of 14 short stories, each under 1K in length. The entire book will take you less than half an hour to read and it's a measly 99 cents.
