Here's to hoping we raise a little adventurer...
Two years ago, Ted and I landed at PDX International Airport in a little prop plane on December 25th, home at last from roaming the globe for 350-some days with a couple tattered backpacks and way too many electronics. We … Continue reading →

Yes, Portland gets so much press these days, but watch out! The rest of Oregon's stealing the show...
By some great fate, I am an Oregonian. I grew up with Pacific Northwest air in my lungs, Oregon dirt between my toes and under my fingernails, and a vantage point to watch the world start new each day with … Continue reading →

Our attempt at taking a newborn into the woods to find a Christmas tree... Not quite world travel, but certainly adventurous ;)
It sounded like a romantic notion, bundling up the 2.73 month old and venturing into Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest to cut down a wild Christmas tree…but how did it actually go, you ask? A December freeeeeezing snap wrapped our city in a bone-chilling cold (a dozen degrees Fahrenheit is ...

Disregard the fact that my mom never taught me any Lightroom tricks...this one's pretty handy to have in the back pocket.
Adobe Lightroom is a program full of many different little tips and tricks just waiting to be discovered. In this short video I show you one of my favorites which allows you to apply a selective focus technique to your photo without having to open it in Photoshop. This technique is especially useful if you want to draw your viewers attention somewhere specific in the photo. Once you've decided where you would like to draw the attention you can ch...

I've been excited about staying in a lookout tower for ten years...and this year, I finally made it happen.
A short time after Lucie was born last September, Ted called me from work and said, “Here are the dates for a four day weekend in February, I want you to have fun finding somewhere to go, just the three … Continue reading →

As Oregon's Health Care Exchange website struggles along, I've been home with my little sickie, watching Health Care music videos...
I've been mothering a little sick baby this week. Two month old Lucie came down with her first cold, and the past string of days has been a blur of steam baths, nasal saline drops, delightful Swedish inventions (ha!), cuddles, nighttime rocking sessions, and daytime board books for temporary ...

Introduction
Writer, Photographer, Traveler at twoOregonians
Bragging rights
Eighth generation Oregonian (pre-Oregon Trail!). Knew at age 14 I wanted to become a Landscape Architect. Co-founded Sustainable Food for Thought & The PDX Food Swap. My (not-so-secret-anymore!) passion is orchestrating adventures around the globe. I spent 2012 visiting 25 countries and territories with my husband. We hiked in Patagonia, crossed the Atlantic by ship, drove Lamborghinis in Italy, felt at home in bombed-out Beirut, volunteered on the shores of the Indian Ocean in South Africa, made it to Zanzibar, traipsed through Southeast Asia, and landed in New Zealand for a grand finale!

I won't be surprised when this space is booked solid after word gets out. Portland needed more deluxe mid-sized venues, and Opal 28 has it all: historical character and up-to-date style, easy to customize indoor rooms, a charming outdoor patio garden (complete with strings of white lights criss-crossing the skies!), a great bar, full commercial kitchen, and great assortment of on-hand items for groups like ours to use. We hosted an informal night of food and drinks with PDX Food Swap friends and featured a guest speaker from out of town. Margot's space could have easily accommodated five or six times the number of people, and yet it still felt perfectly suited to our group of 25-ish as people mingled near the bar, on the couches, outside on the terrace, and in the front room. The stash of plates, cutlery, napkins, etc., and the existing decor made it easy to set up and offer a beautiful spread, clean up was a cinch, and people are still talking about what a lovely night we had.

I've stayed in luxury accommodations on five continents, and The Arrow sits high atop my list of favorites. Tim has created a collection of absolutely beautiful spaces. Our spotless room featured classy and functional design innovations. Peaceful garden grounds and a path through the cozy woodlands made stepping out for a walk to downtown Arrowtown a pure pleasure. Zipping wifi, warming welcome drinks, breakfast delivered magically via the "secret cupboard" - all details cleverly designed and artfully executed. If you wonder why I'm gushing: I'm a landscape architect and a tech-savvy traveler. Finding a paradise like this anywhere in the world - and especially in my adopted favorite country of New Zealand - is worth sharing about. I hope to return someday in the not-too-distant future...
