A few of my favorite colors

As it turns out combining fingerpainting, brushes, inexpensive paint, and a childlike approach is a wonderful way to discover a bit about how colors play with each other.

For now I'm out of canvases so I put the paints away, but I've no doubt I will get them out again soon.

Looking forward to sunsets on Big Sand

Summer always has been and always will be my favorite season.  I love the heat, the sun, and especially the long days.

Most of all, I love my annual trip to Big Sand Lake in Northern Minnesota - this year is no different.

One of my absolute favorite things to do while I'm there is to take sunset pictures. (pinging +Ron Serina - you might enjoy these).

17 days and counting down to my next opportunity to enjoy the beauty of one of my favorite places on earth.

When my brother sent me this paint for Christmas, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do with it- as it turns out, I'm having lots of fun experimenting.

Maybe the fact that it's a product designed for kids is bringing out my 3rd grade girl.

+Beth Lee Browning I had a friend who's cat's eye would show up once in a while like this and she took the pics and the cat to the vet, and sure enough, it was a cataract that no one could see. I guess the vet did some research and found that this also happens in human eyes. Odd, isn't it? Hopefully, it's nothing !

A Beautiful Lesson In The Art of Giving and Receiving

A lovely, lovely walk today - complete with a great story.

The funniest part may be the fact that after telling it to my son he said "that explains why you had feathers in your hair."

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Today I went for a walk, little did I know that I would be taught a most valuable lesson about giving and receiving, from a 4 year old girl.

About 1/2 way through my walk I crossed paths with two women and 5 little girls who were enjoying the sights along the canal. I couldn’t help but notice the little blonde girl walking toward me and how proudly she held four goose feathers in her hands.

She looked up at me and stretched out her hands, “would you like one of my beautiful feathers?”

“Of course I would, thank you so much for such a wonderful gift.”

Her entire body, not just her face, lit up with the pleasure she felt in giving me this very precious gift.

As I walked away, goose feather in hand, I wasn’t sure quite what to do. It was clear that to her, this was not a dirty goose feather, it was magical and beautiful. Tossing it aside wasn’t an option. I couldn’t bear the thought of seeing her face if we crossed paths again and I had tossed aside her gift.

The perfect solution came to me and I tucked the feather into my pony tail.

I thought about the nature of giving and receiving. It’s become clear to me that being a good receiver is equally important as being a generous giver. This tiny girl’s face lit up the world with joy when I accepted her gift, I can’t help but think that her light would have dimmed if her gift had been rejected or ignored.

On the final stretch of my walk I encountered the group again. Tiny brown eyes looked up at me asking, “do you still have the feather I gave you?”

I pointed to my pony tail and turned around on the path, “what do you think?”

“I think it’s beautiful,” she said.

“I do too.”

She held out the three remaining feathers, “would you like one more?”

“Are you sure?” I asked.

“Oh yes, you need two.”

“Shall I put this one in my pony tail also?”

Tiny hands clapped and she said “yes.”

I tucked the second goose feather into my hair and turned so she could see it.

“Oh my, you look like you have two beautiful birds on your head.”

Words can’t describe the warmth that filled my heart or the smile that spread over my face and hers.

Artist’s note: The feature image represents my interpretation of the day. Out of context I doubt it has much meaning, but I like to think that my little friend would find it beautiful.

thanks +Glenn Watt ! Somehow it felt like a really important moment in life for both of us. The funny thing is that I am scared to death of geese - they are absolutely my least favorite bird on the planet - so I really had to look at those feathers through her eyes, not mine, and I'm so glad I did!

Our deepest fear...

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone."

– Marianne Williamson

It's one thing to read this quote. It's another thing to hear it straight from the author.

Enjoy and share this video. ♡
