The conference floor and session rooms at #io14 were abuzz with great conversations about design. While these great conversations continue here on the web, we wanted to share some of our favorite moments from the conference. Flip through the photo album below to get a glimpse of design across the two days of Google I/O 2014, from the keynote, to live sessions, to the design sandbox, and to the workshops.

Steve Jobs’ statement that Apple does not do market research has stirred a lot of opinions since he was interviewed by Forbes in 2008: “We do no market research. We don’t hire consultants. Are leaders and managers who are working in the customer experience domain different from their peers in other areas of an organization? My observation is that this is the case but what really makes them different has been something that was still an open question. Recently I stumbled on a question on the Q&A site Quora about the innate traits of great product leaders and it seems to me that these traits also apply to great customer experience le...

"But that Zuckerberg was able to hold onto so much stock and an astounding majority of the voting rights is proof that his success is no fluke. The guy must be a badass at the negotiating table."
Nick Bilton and Evelyn Rusli, reporting for the NYT on who’s profiting from the Facebook IPO: Mr. Zuckerberg, 27, has 533.8 million shares, worth $28.4 billion based on a company valuation of $100 billion, or $53 a share. He also has undisputed control of the company, a remarkable achievement since the company has received financing from some of the world’s top business minds. He owns 28.4 percent of the company outright and he controls 57 perce...

Contrary to popular opinion I don’t think that blogs are dead. I would argue that the time of crappy blogs about dogs and people’s everyday experiences is over and they are replaced by high-quality blogs where smart individuals share their thoughts and knowledge about a certain topic. Some of these authors provide insights and share point of views that average tech journalist do not have because they have become nothing more than PR echo chambers...

If you would like to create a new chocolate bar – how would you approach this task? Depending on your skills and experience you would start with an analysis of existing chocolate bars in the market, track their prices and positioning to identify areas for differentiation of a new brand. Another way to look at this problem is to reframe the question and ask yourself: “What is the job these chocolate bars are hired to do?”. This is the leading ques...

The legendary founder of IDEO talks with Charlie Rose on a recent episode of 60 Minutes. 60 Minutes is the same show that introduced design thinking to a broader audience in 1999 with the now famous shopping cart video. The videos is also available on cbsnews.com.
