It's Earth Day! Just one person can eliminate the need for 100+ plastic bottles a year by using a reuseable glass bottle. This one small change can also actually benefit your health. 92% of Americans age 6 and older test positive for the chemical BPA from plastic use. http://ow.ly/4mZ2JM Our
We’ve all been told that we should recycle plastic bottles and containers. But what actually happens to the plastic if we just throw it away? Here are the life cycles of three different plastic...

Everyone can begin their food storage, no matter how small the space! http://ow.ly/4n4YfH
There's one bad thing about stockpiling food: It takes up a lot of space. Fortunately, you probably have more space for your food storage than you think.

This artist is turning water into art! http://ow.ly/4mXgm5
I started developing my new artistic style when my son introduced me to Instagram three years ago. I use paint and props to give ordinary things a twist. I have also developed a technique which allows me to create images using drops of water.

Grow your food all year round with an underground greenhouse http://ow.ly/10ANqj
This earth-sheltered greenhouse taps into the thermal mass of the earth, so that much less energy is needed to heat up the walipini's interior than an aboveground greenhouse. Of course, there are precautions to take in waterproofing, drainage and ventilating the walipini, while aligning it properly to the sun -- which the manual covers in detail.Growing food is an every day necessity, if we are trying to become independent and self sufficient, yo...

Time to get off municipal water systems? What do you think? http://ow.ly/10AVfb
Now that you're getting your power from the sun and wind, it's time to get yourself off the city water and sewer line. The great thing about water is that it's everywhere -- it runs beneath your feet as groundwater and falls from the sky as rain. You can tap into both of these resources in order to go off the grid. According to the EPA, roughly 15 percent of homes in the United States get their water on their own, so there's no reason why you can...

It's been my experience that the reservoir that holds the water to be purified is too heavy to keep it from leaking. The spring in the spigot is too weak to hold back the weight of the water, therefore it leaks. I've mentioned it and they've sent me several new spigots, but the results are the same, over and over. I suggested they put a stronger spring in it, but the reply is, I'm the only one having issues with it leaking, I can't believe that! They offered to send me a brass one, but wanted to charge me for it...where it should have been free for all the trouble its caused! The other thing is, the filters is where they make their money, the price for these filters are totally out of line! I'm afraid I can't endorse the product for these annoying reasons that are ignored...saying it's me! A company that takes such a position should be ashamed of themselves!!

We started with the travel Berkey liked it so much, we upgraded to Big Berkey. But we find that we use the filtered water for so much more that our next Berkey will be the Crown Berkey.
