There's one thing to credit the Tories for.

Let's hope other European countries follow suit instead of insisting that only a global solution will fix this problem. And (as is the case of France) trying to find circumvoluted ways of taxing these companies that simply cannot work.

From the start of this month the online retailer has started booking its sales through the UK, meaning resulting profits will be taxed by HMRC

A few shots from Iceland (Golden Circle) and Reykjavik. They show the Icelandic photographic potential, but also the limitations of being there for something else and trying to make the most of limited time to take some photos.
I have to say though that the Gullfoss chutes were one of the most impressive things I have seen in my life. When I go back there I'll have a tripod and filters to truly capture their majestic glory.

I would love to visit Gullfoss, especially now that I have some good filters.

See That My Grave is Kept Clean is the song that reconciled me with late BB King recordings. It's from One Kind Favor, a stripped down album produced by T Bone Burnett in 2008. BB's guitar doesn't have the power of yore, but it still bites when needed, and his gravely voice makes this falsely lively tune all the more dark. This is the album version:

A few shots from Jakarta. From the point of view of the typical tourist, I'm not sure Jakarta has a whole lot to offer, but it's a street photographer's paradise, especially since the Indonesians seem to love getting out of their way to be photographed.

This is such a known quantity in the world, we even have words for it: cumulative advantage and cumulative disadvantage. It didn't make a splash in academia until after Pierre Bourdieu overcame his own cumulative disadvantage and became accepted in the French academy. But it's always been an implicit fact of civilization: some people toil so others don't have to, and sooner or later, the ones who don't naturally believe that's as it should be. Aristocracy, peerage, dynasties - these are the political manifestations of an implicit belief in cumulative disadvantage. If those with power didn't believe this paradigm existed - of bootstrapping actually worked - why would they create systems that perpetuate it? Cui bono?

Superb.

This one is just too good to not use in a Numenera game.
Upcoming comic anthology New World is all about civilizations clashing, and clash they do in this comic from the book, written by Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal’s Zach Weinersmith and illustrated by O Human Star’s Blue Delliquanti, where a man visits in isolated space colony founded on an unusual belief.

Very worthy of your time.

"It can be a little too easy sometimes to dismiss arguments you don't like as hate speech, or to complain that this or that speaker makes you feel... disrespected. Being offended is not to be confused with a state of grace. It's the occasional price we pay for living in an open society."

Sweet Little Angel is also a classic BB King song, and the original slow blues as far as I'm concerned. When you hear Buddy Guy or Albert King doing their slow blues, you hear BB King's Sweet Black Angel behind them. It's a deep song of love in a very melancholy box. A fantastic old version:

How Blue Can You Get is another classic and probably the most famous blues BB King recorded. It combines a lush, horn-backed arrangement with darkly ironic lyrics about unrequited love and jealousy. "You're evil when I'm with you, and you're jealous when we're apart." sums it up nicely. The version on the justly celebrated Live at the Apollo is fantastic. This one from the Cook County Jail is also quite stunning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWLAAzOBoBI #rip #bbking #5songs
