Beta feedback  -

Just thought you guys should know - I implemented the Android N beta on my Pixel C, and the standard Note app wasn't loading at all for me (was working fine on Marshmallow). I upgraded to this beta and all is good though :)

I've been off the radar a very long time working on a huge and really cool project that you'll hear all about soon :)

My emails and to-dos were getting out of control, so to help me get through everything smoother, I have a new multi-screen #workstation setup! It includes an #alienware PC with processing power strong enough to handle all my upcoming 4K video uploads, connected monitors with one in portrait (more screen real estate helps a lot with multitasking), #GooglePixelC for most of my app needs, Note 4 for when I'm out, keyboard with Workman layout (testing it instead of Dvorak because it's easier to transition to and slightly more efficient), vertical mouse (old mouse was actually starting to hurt my arm/wrist), and laptop running Linux with the mouse/keyboard linked to my Windows PC through the #synergy app (when I move my mouse to the left of the monitor it appears in a whole new operating system. Sweet!)

I had to save up for a long time, but have been looking forward to this #dreamsetup for ages :)

Expect a lot of fun and interesting things this year :) What do you think of the ideal #languagehacking set up?

Awesome video. I'm currently going through exactly what you are talking about in Germany. Trying to overcome my anxiety to speak and my fear of getting things wrong. It's really not easy but you are right, you really don't progress until you start speaking. I've been studying for over 8 months and where I struggle with is understanding and speaking, and its almost entirely because I don;t actually engage with people out of anxiety. Thanks for the vid.

Make sure to look up tonight! Supermoon & lunar eclipse combo!

I missed the last one, what with me being 5 months old and being distracted by perfecting my roll over and grabbing skills.

It lasts a couple of hours and the peak will be about 6 hours from now. Google is your friend for exact time where you are! Look South West and enjoy!

Today is a special day for me:
* It's my birthday
* I've been travelling for TWELVE years non-stop
* I have been blogging at Fluent in 3 months for over 6 years!
To celebrate, here is a blog post with some unique lessons learned in the process of writing to large audiences, meeting so many people who have found me through my blog and the highs and lows, as well as many things I've learned.
Enjoy, and as a birthday present to me, I'd really appreciate if you shared it!
Today, July 10th, is my 33rd birthday and my twelve year travel anniversary (that’s 12-years of non-stop travel since I graduated university and hit the road). Since I’ve already contemplated the lessons I’ve learned from years of travel before, today I’ve decided to look at another important life achievement. It turns out that I’ve been …

1+Hello Benny Lewis. Is it possible that one could meet you and Lauren? I would enjoy meeting a fellow polyglot such as yourself.

Apart from being able to communicate with usually millions more people, there are actually a host of extra skills you get when you learn another language.
What skills do you agree with? What did I miss?

Have you ever considered a year or semester abroad to help improve your foreign language skills?
I invited Winfried to share his experience and thoughts for how to do it right, as well as details of the entire process, from sign-up to successfully making friends and not slipping into the English speaking bubble.
Enjoy!
Studying abroad is a great way to learn another language. Find out about the opportunities for university students who’d like to study abroad.

I've been travelling for over 13 years, and been able to make language learning a major priority, but how have I supported that lifestyle?

When invited to speak at the Polyglot Conference in New York, I decided to cover this topic that I knew other polyglots would love for me to explain in more depth: The logistics of getting work that supports a language learning and travel lifestyle.

And they just uploaded my presentation, free for the whole world to enjoy. Check it out, and be sure to share with anyone with some wanderlust!
You don't have to be rich to travel the world - you just have to find the right job.

This weekend, New York City welcomes many of your favourite online and offline polyglots, language learners and linguists at the Polyglot Conference ‪#‎PCNYC15‬.

To welcome them, since I've come into the States so often, I wrote up this list of must-knows for fellow Europeans coming to the US, and to New York specifically.

Enjoy!
After thirteen years of not living in a single place for more than a few months, I’m going to call New York City home for most of the next year! I’ll still do a bit of travelling, of course, but it will be great to have a base to come back to. And what a city to …

Do you find listening a difficult skill to learn in your target language? This might be why...
You can develop good listening skills in any language, but probably not in the way that you think...

Happy Independence Day weekend to all American readers!

One of my most famous posts is one were I had a tongue-in-cheek fun-poking at my friends from across the pond, so it's revenge time!

My American partner Lauren decided to poke fun right back at me and point out some silly things that I say as a non-American. I hope you enjoy the post :)

THANK YOU Fran! Fran conspired with my fiancé Benny to capture my surprise proposal on camera in front of the Eiffel tower. He pretended to be an "old friend" of my fiancé's that we happened to run into... and I had absolutely no idea he was there to capture my proposal until my fiancé got down on one knee, and Fran captured that moment in a series of AMAZING shots! He was incredibly professional about it, but initially convinced me that we were just hanging out. I love how you can see the look of surprise, then confusion, then excitement in my face :) Everyone loves our photos and I'm so thrilled to have the moment captured forever. Afterward we had a fantastic photo shoot and Fran was determined the get the perfect shots. He was constantly making sure other people weren't in our photos (asking them to move aside politely but firmly) and he gave us tips for where to place our hands and tilt our heads to get great photos. I love that Fran had his own ideas for beautiful poses and props but also was flexible in taking other photos we specifically requested. And of course the photos look fantastic! Everyone tells us that they look like something out of a wedding magazine. Thank you so much Fran! -Lauren and Benny Lewis
