Dear Mr. Ballmer,
I have been a long time supporter and user of Microsoft products for many years. I've made my living for the last 25 years supporting computers running MS-DOS, Windows, Window for Workgroups (Best Windows Ever - for a few years anyways) Windows NT, 95, 98, XP, 2000, 2003, 2008, 2008R2, and Windows 7 (sorry, no Millenium or Vista - they sucked). I bought into Windows CE as a personal device and followed it into phones with Windows Mobile. About a year ago, I bought my first Android phone, an HTC Evo. I really do like it a lot.
I've never been a fanboy of Apple products so I skipped the whole ipod, iphone and ipad thing. I figure, why give money to a company that hasn't helped me pay the bills for so long like Microsoft has.
Now I see that you are bashing Android. It takes a computer scientist to use an android phone? Really? Don't be a dumbass. Like you can't figure out how to touch something on the screen to make it launch? Because that is so different than clicking on something with a mouse, right?
Also, berating and belittling your competition is, well, it's the kind of thing that politicians do that make me vote for the other candidate. And when I hear a salesman (yes, you are a salesman) do that, I begin to wonder what is wrong with their products.
So I was thinking, maybe you should give Windows Mobile away for free. Maybe you should sponsor porting it to my HTC Evo. I'd try it out. And if it is better than Android, I would leave it on there. Maybe I would use the Microsoft store to buy some apps for it. At the very least, I would give it a fair shot. And if it sucks, I would put my Android back on the phone.
What do you think Steve-o? Do you think you can get the developer world behind you? Can you get some real excitement going with Windows again? You've seen how open source can change the market and change the world - think Kinect. Can you change your model to a new paradigm? If you can't then start selling your stock now and I'll start looking for a new job.
