It's not "spyware" in the sense that we think of it.  I'm not a big fan of my lens search results also returning Amazon results, but that's easily disabled.

On the other side of the fence, if I buy something from Amazon via lens search results and Canonical gets a cut, I'm all for that.  How many of us use Ubuntu and have never given them a dime?  If I can buy items from Amazon and give Canonical a little money at the same time, then I have no issues with that.

I do agree the feature needs to be an opt-in and disabled be default.
I'm all for results in the dash and supporting Canonical financially but I am not for ignoring privacy of users.
If you were worried about privacy you wouldn't have a Google account.
I agree - being a amazon buyer, ubuntu user and having as you can see a google account.
What is a bit annoying is the fact that it is switch on my default and you have to turn it of activly. But at least is can be disabled - thats the good thing.
