Which engine do you use primarily?

I will begin writing tutorials next month.
As I am a programmer, I will cover coding.

Is this real?
How should I learn from somebody who is unable to install chrome in linux?
In any halfway recent distribution, its easier than in windows.
Open the package manager/software center, search chromium/chrome and click on install.

I am sorry, but I just can't take this video for real... I need a competent source.

My first game! (apart from game maker and rpg maker games as a child)

I teamed up with a friend of mine and we created a mini game around a cute ghost that is scared in the dark.

We would love to hear some feedback.

Available for Windows, Mac, Linux.(and generic java jar)
(I hope the mac launcher works, I cannot test it.)

Ehh. This is the only file that unity outputs when I build for that platform. Does this work ?

OOOO. I found it. Give me a second. I FIGURED IT OUT!!! Sorry about that!

Has anyone written anything that I can test in linux?
It's really frustrating, that all so-called "Web" Versions are Windows only. What's the point of being in the browser then?
I hate Unity for being "almost cross platform".

Finding 20 linux games in 3 weeks so I can test them...
Didn't think that would be a challenge.
Something is wrong here.

This story is amazing...
Upvote this game on Greenlight here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=134714217

A cracked version of a game development simulator (Game Dev Tycoon) is biased so that players of that cracked version encounter more piracy in the game.

Hilarity ensues.

The players of the pirated version start complaining on forums.
- "Why are there so many people that pirate? It ruins me!"
- "Is there some way to avoid that? I mean can I research DRM or something?"

Interesting story...
So, more than 90% choose to pirate the game instead of buying it...
I should do more research if I am about to commercialize my game :).

Great article on the basics of indie game marketing with a 0$ budget.

Hi there!

I wrote synthetic notes for Emmy Jonassen's Talk: "Marketing an indie game with a 0$ budget". It's a pretty comprehensive introduction to video games marketing and PR for independent developers.

The article got 270+ upvotes on r/gamedev!
A guide on how to do marketing for your indie game without a dedicated budget! From Emmy Jonassen's talk at Konsoll 2013.

Tutorials & Hangouts  -

Games are software.
Would you be interested in an introduction to:
- software architecture
- agile development
- software engineering
- Why you should use version control (git/svn)

Which topic would be of most interest to you?
These topics are mostly "made for coders",
but I could give an abstract overview first so that designers could understand it too.

If you're interested in a topic, post it in the comments.
Also, hangout or youtube video?

+Olivio Sarikas that's great. I can also prepare some stuff to share, I'm always happy to share! I can also prepare something about game design and development. I will give some lectures next week about this subject btw.

Yes +Benjamin Justice should be the moderator, and we can prepare a nice script so we all get in the right track. And also I have the list of past hangouts, thanks man!

Let's keep this iniciative growing; I believe that good information is needed in this constant developing industry.

While Guitar Pro 6 is NOT FREE, it is very cheap.
For just 60€ you get the full version which can generate Playstation Quality music from sheet music. And version 6 supports Windows, Mac, Linux!
(Installing on a 64bit Linux OS requires some work and knowledge ...sadly)

A free open-source alternative is tuxguitar.
It can only generate Midi files, but itcan read & write guitar pro file formats.

Writing the sheet music is easy for guitarists with guitar pro, as you can write guitar tabs :)

I am currently using GP6 to make video game music and it works great.
(It can also be used to practice guitar playing and other things the software is actually made for)
Guitar Pro 6 is a tablature editor software for guitar, bass, and other fretted instruments. Equipped with a powerful audio engine, it makes writing music easier, and it constitutes an essential tool ...

you use it to create the sheet music, but it can also generate a .wav file from it, using their proprietary sound engine.
I dont know Reason. I only use Guitar Pro, Audacity & Ardour GTK (dont have much experience with ardour yet)
