If I could, I would like/+1/whatever this article like a million times. I kept yelling at everyone to use words instead of characters to create new password since I read it.

Don't you fear forward thinking may conflict with the YAGNI principe ? Plus foward thinking is pretty easy with the hashing example but what about a whole component or even a framework ?

History of programming has proven that forward thinking is often put aside in favor of refactoring and the reason is clear for me: when the needs change, the tools are to change with them. In the long run , BC is inevitably broken.

PHP is truly a good example of how BC can bring bad thing and, IMHO, will stop growing or event loosing market shares in the near future  because of that. Now that's too late for forward thinking, refactoring is needed.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we shouldn't care about scalability. I'm just saying that it merely repels the refactoring specter, he doesn't disapear.

Les capucins rejettent l'inégalité. L'expérience suivante consiste à faire effectuer la même tâche à deux capucins, l'un est récompensé par du concombre, l'autre par du raisin. Observez la réaction du premier lors que le second reçoit sa récompense.
