Story

Demo guy, XAML guru, Gadget / Design / NUI enthusiast.
Introduction
I'm a lifelong geek, gamer, and gadget junkie. My more recent passions include design, travel, wine, and failing to sum up all my interests in a short list. Not surprisingly, I studied computer science, always tend to have the latest smartphone, and spend of a lot of time talking about 'apps'.

My professional experience has mostly orbited Microsoft. I love working with XAML + Blend, Kinect, and mobile UIs of all kinds. I believe pen, touch, gesture, mouse, and keyboard input will all live in harmony. I'm currently focused on cross-platform mobile tech like Xamarin. Meanwhile, I continue to use an Android phone (Nexus 5 atm), love my iPad, and am always ready to try the next thing. I'm after usefulness, and never pretend the best fit for me is necessarily the best for you.

I don't love technology itself, but how it can improve lives.

I'm on a continual quest to optimize and live using the best tools humanity has yet imagined, and I'm happy to provide a few along the way.

I hope the Singularity gets here before I'm done.

You might think Seattle didn't need another coffee bar, but you'd be wrong. It's surprisingly hard to find truly good coffee in that city, despite its reputation. However, I think that's starting to change.
In a city whose streets are saturated with high quality espresso bars, now there's a cafe for seafarers, too.

This article is probably the best thing that will come out of a new Transformers movie.
Polygon's Culture section deals with the intersection of gaming, its audience and pop culture as a whole. This is where we'll put non-gaming stories we think are worth talking about.

This was super fascinating. I wish mechanical computing like this had been taught as part of my CS degree, just for context, as I admit I had no idea this stuff existed.
In some ways, the Navy's latest computers fall short of the power of 1930s tech.

One of those things you've probably seen before, but 19 is the best. Somehow I must have missed that West Wing episode. Great stuff.

Excellent points. I'd actually really like to watch some DOTA and understand it without having to put in a couple hundred hours learning to play.

*Edit - I just finished watching the whole 45min run and it's amazingly entertaining. The ending is super exciting. (seriously!)

What eSports could learn from an amazing four-person Super Metroid speedrun - http://www.polygon.com/2014/1/15/5311460/esports-super-metroid-speedrun

Members of the Speed Demos Archive made history last week by raising over one million dollars in support of the Prevent Cancer Foundation. They did this by playing games quickly, and organizing the results in an event called Awesome Games Done Quick. The event was streamed live, and the gaming ability and ingenuity on display was often amazing; the players didn't just beat the games, they mastered them. Some played in blindfolds. Others used only one hand.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 was also host to one of the hands-down best examples of video game commentary that I've ever experienced.

I'm pretty sure this was just a side-project that isn't endorsed by the Windows team, but I have to say I've always wanted interactive live tiles. The efficiency of Android's widgets is a big reason I haven't moved to WP.
Summary: Microsoft researchers are looking at ways to allow Windows 8, Windows Phone and Xbox users able to interact directly with Live Tiles.

For a second I was impressed that the South Park game was actually $5 less in the Australia Steam store. Then I saw it. THE HORROR!

Slick app and great to see some info on how they built it.
To design the groundbreaking app Paper Facebook built an in-house IxD tool first. And then the company shared it with the world for free.
