I have always loved the seasons, but this year I have never been more ready for spring! Can't wait to roam the warm beaches! This was taken from Good Harbor back when the weather was warm and nice!

Iowa Bald Eagles

This eagle is perched overlooking the Mississippi searching for his breakfast. Many eagles flock to the midwest for winter in search for food. For more information check out

Fall Vineyard

This vineyard is up Old Mission Peninsula near Traverse City Michigan. Believe it or not this area is home to many vineyards! The overlook and parking area displays views of the vineyard, Grand Traverse Bay, and the fall colors. If you look closely you will notice the grapes have yet to be harvested.

How It Was Made

This image was made just as the sun was rising behind me. The sun had peaked through the clouds to add some color to the otherwise dull sky. I used a .75 hard stop nd filter to balance the exposure and made 3 quick images with a 24mm TS-e. The image was stitched in photoshop to make the panorama.

Lake Louise

One of the most photographed lakes in the world is Lake Louise in Alberta Canada. On my most recent trip to Banff, I spent most mornings photographing the lake. This is my take on such an iconic location.

How It Was Made

I took this image well before sunrise. Looking at the scene with the naked eye, it was very dull and lifeless. As dark as it was, it made it very difficult to even compose the image. The camera set to a 30 second exposure will pick up all the available light in the scene, and produce an image that is significantly different than what I saw in person. As photographers we have to remind ourselves to think like the camera sees. If we don't we may miss many opportunities to make great images.

A couple days later at this same location I saw +Varina Patel and +Jay Patel trying to capture a sunrise. They were busy working so I didn't introduce myself, but it's always cool seeing someone you admire in the field.

Autumn Reflection

While at a local lake here in Michigan I spotted this unique birch hanging over the waters edge. The colors and reflection made for a great image! This was taken in late afternoon with the sun below the tall trees.

How It Was Made
The tricky part about this image was that the lenses I had wouldn't allow me to get the composition I was looking for. I was either too wide or too long. The solution was to take 4 vertical images and stitch them into a horizontal image. I used a 70-200 at 85 mm. I placed the horizon line almost dead center to give the image balance.

Winter Boardwalk

Winter has showed itself these past few days in Northern Michigan. Snow covered roads and cold temperatures moved in rather suddenly. but I welcome the chaos! It's hard to say winter is my favorite season, but it's definitely not my least favorite.  This is a 3 image panorama made with the 24mm TS-e

Autumn Road

The winding roads of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore are often overlooked. The main attraction are the dunes and the beaches, but second to none in the autumn are the old growth forests. The trees on the left side of the road are seemingly growing over the road is what caught my eye.

How it was done
I used a 70-200 zoomed out to 200mm. This helps the look of the curvy road. A wide angle lens would have trouble capturing the "S" curve. A simple edit in photoshop for contrast, sharpening and a touch of saturation is all that was needed. I also used a polarizer to help make the colors pop on this overcast day.
