Orx Ripper suits from Deadzone
My god these guys took me a lifetime. I practically lost the will to live. I'm happy with the end result and the paint job, but I don't like the models. They poses are goofy and have waaaaay too much fiddly detail which doesn't even look good. Detail for the sake of it, the guns are a prime example of this. Anyhow nearly done with the faction, so maybe one day the game will even hit the table!

Been languishing over my first ripper suit, you've hit the nail on the head. I am even avoiding doing much with a lot of the detail but have lost some desire.

I will say you should try playing the game, it is absolutely fantastic and may just spark that motivation for you again.

Super pleased with my new paint rack. I'm now going to spend the rest of my life arranging them in different configurations and orders. By color, by type, by manufacturer, by pot shape. Argh! I also realise how many duplicate colours I have and so many old paints I never use (Citadel stuff mainly)

It's from http://www.miniaturicum.de/index.php?infoBox=3&cPath=723&sort=4a&language=en BTW

I made a similar rack for my Army Painter paints a while back. I have some Coat d'Arms but they never seem to come out of their box now - I guess out of sight really is out of mind.

Restic
Why is this awful material used by so many companies now? I took a long break from the hobby so back in "my day" it was all white-metal and plastics. Proper plastics that stuck together with liquid poly cement. This resin-plastic stuff seems to provide no benefits, awful mould lines (across all the companies I've seen use it), warped pieces that need heating/reshaping and trying to remove mould lines results in a utter mess.
Everyone hates it - so why is it used? I can't discern any noticeable increase in detail over good old fashioned plastic #grumble    #old #moan

Games Workshop's HQis effectively a plastics factory. They design, make moulds, and produce the finished sprues in house.

If plastic were cost efficient for small volume items we'd see a wholly plastic range. I think we will get there eventually as tooling costs continue to fall and global volumes increase. Eventually even niche items can be mass produced if you have a large enough market.

As for Restic. I personally don't like it or get on with it and regard it as an inferior material. I generally convert plastics to characters to avoid buying Restic ones.

Descent Merriods done. The mix of grey and turquoise I used as the base was a strange colour to work with for shading. More airbrush experimentation on these two. Not my finest work, but good enough for the table.

Finished the pair of Descent 2nd Ed Elementals. Very weird minis, they've tried to combine all four elements in one figure, which is a bit of a jumble and doesn't really work for me. The fire isn't quite what I'd hoped for, but they still look pretty striking from a distance

I dig the multi-elemental design, it's fun.  And the paint job is a good fit for the monsters somewhat cartoony appearance. Nice work.

More airbrushing. Not super pleased with the result on these two dragons, but it was quick. As I hate painting dragons, quick is a good thing!

You can get good coloured highlights over black by doing all your tonal work in pure white, and then over-spraying the whole shebang with transparent glazes of the colour you want. You'll probably need multiple coats to get the intensity of colour required. It has the added advantage that it subtly colours the remaining black, so it blends the highlights and shadows together into an integrated colour scheme.
