There is a group of friends in #harrisburg  that play in a fantasy league for #thebachelor . This is their story.
(Harrisburg) -- As the midstate thaws out from a rough, cold winter, baseball fans know spring offers hope. With Opening Day approaching, many are drafting their fantasy baseball teams in hopes of securing bragging rights over friends and coworkers. When it comes to fantasy sports, an estimated 41 million people will spend at least $11 billion this year on their leagues. Bu now, the industry is expanding into an unlikely arena: reality TV.

"So I just stood there and looked at him for a little while. I remember shaking him and realizing he was cold." #heroin #addiction #lancastercounty
(Mount Joy) -- Anthony Perez, born on April 27th, 1990, nearly always had two parents in his life - Stacy Emminger and his stepfather Stephen Mercado. You know the quintessential American middle class story? He lived it, as Stacy notes while she flips through pictures from his childhood.

"But there's no clause written into the contract saying if the governor changes?"

"No" #healthypa   #medicaidexpansion   #tomwolf   #governorcorbett
(Harrisburg) -- The Corbett administration says it hasn't considered how to dismantle a program known as Healthy Pennsylvania that will provide health insurance for up to 600,000 people. The comments come after Governor-elect Wolf’s transition team indicated it plans to scrap Corbett’s Healthy Pennsylvania plan and instead expand Medicaid outright. The incoming Wolf administration is already talking with the federal government about transitioning...

Sure, there's education and pension costs, but all politics is local, right? #pipeline   #lancastercountypa   #election2014
(Harrisburg) -- A township supervisor faces a political newcomer in the 41st legislative district in Lancaster County. The state House seat opened up earlier this year, after state Senator Mike Brubaker announced his retirement in 2013. Republican Brett Miller falls in line with the state Republican Party: send new state employees into a 401(k) style retirement plan, and shrink government.

A federal report found an 88 percent increase in observation stays for Medicare patients between 2006 and 2012.

(Harrisburg) -- A new law will require hospitals in Pennsylvania to tell patients whether they are just being observed instead of admitted as an inpatient. The bill, signed by Governor Corbett this week, aims to bring some transparency to health care. Under

Coach Herb Brooks, Remember the Titans, Mighty Ducks, and...health care?
Photo by Ben Allen/witf Julie Assi balances a caseload of about 30 patients at Wellspan as a health coach. (York) -- Coaches lead men to glory against the Soviets in the 1980 Winter Olympics - that's Herb Brooks, or patrol the football sidelines in the midst of racial turmoil in the Civil Rights Era - Herman Boone, among others, or inspire a ragtag group of kids on the ice - Gordon Bombay (see the Mighty Ducks). "Oh my god, haven't even thought about it, looked at my phone. I just feel so free right now."
(York) -- The story of drug addiction doesn't have to end with an obituary. For those who commit themselves to the day-to-day grind of recovery, it is possible to overcome the pull of drugs, even from one of the strongest available - heroin. It's a cold February morning, and the sun is barely peeking out. On York's South George street, a mother and daughter trudge into a Kia Soul just before 7.

"My big thing is an addict is an addict so it’s a good thing to bring them back, but it doesn’t change the behavior."
(Harrisburg) -- Across the midstate, the commonwealth and Northeast, hundreds of people have died of heroin overdoses in the past year. But now, Pennsylvania police officers can carry a life-saving drug commonly known by its brand name – Narcan. With a couple squirts up the nose, Narcan can reverse an overdose and bring someone back to life. However, many are warning it's just a first step. Origins of the bill Before arriving in Harrisburg in 201...

All that we know about things so far
Photo by AP Photo/PennDOT via Pennsylvania State Police (Harrisburg) -- A federal law enforcement official says a man accused of killing one Pennsylvania state trooper and seriously injuring another during an ambush last month was armed when he was captured by U.S. marshals in an abandoned airplane hangar.  The official in Washington wasn't authorized to discuss the circumstances of Eric Frein's arrest and spoke anonymously. "I think PAs have been contributing to medicine for the last 40 years and I think the contributions are just now becoming better known. I don’t know that the role has evolved as much as really that people are now just more aware of them because there are more PAs." #physicianassistant   #healthcare
Photo by Ben Allen/witf Bernadette Van Hulle, a physician assistant at Penn State Hershey Medical Group's Elizabethtown office, examines a patient during a visit. (Harrisburg) -- The health care provider shortage is often described as a primary care physician shortage. In all of Pennsylvania, about a thousand areas are designated medically underserved. But at least two other groups can help provide care to more people. Physician assistants and n...
