NO #ethics, integrity, quality & consistency, when the majority of #cattle ranchers are estimated to use lab-made beta agonist drugs to bulk up the herd with feed #additives - beef that we eat! Feeders use drugs like #Optaflexx and  #Zilmax  to increase their profits, but at what cost? Unacceptable. Follow our feed on Facebook.

Breaking News. Reuters uncovers that Merck is funding testing, lower levels of #Zilmax on cattle in a hush hush study aimed at bringing the FDA approved beta agonist. muscle bulking drug back to market. If it weren't for the reporter, consumers would probably not know about the research that reportedly started in October. Merck had declined to issue a press release or announced the study to the public in yet another example of a lack of transparency. Every agricultural journal should require authors to publicly disclose all funding #research sources & financial ties that authors have to the drug industry. Pro beta agonist industry groups allegedly have funded Zilmax animal welfare "safety" studies, reports advocacy group Food & Water Watch. Read:

We agree with Food & Water Watch. Congress should instruct #FDA to  "dramatically revamp its animal drug approval process to be based primarily on independent science, instead of depending entirely on research furnished by drug sponsors."

#Consumers , incl #mothers , #fathers  and #families  should rise up!   It's appalling what's happening in the USA #Beef industry. An estimated majority of cattle are fed lab-made chemicals called beta agonists to bulk 'em up for profits. Zero transparency! No labeling. That's #unacceptable . #foodproduction   #foodadditives  Follow Facebook feed.

+Reuters quotes Beef Additive Alert co-founder Harvey Dietrich in an exclusive published today about a hush hush new cattle study of Zilmax drug that Merck removed from the market in August 2013 due to animal welfare concerns. Since then, rival beta agonist drug Optaflexx took its place. Dietrich says: "Merck wants their market share back." Beef Additive Alert (tm) is a national consumer action campaign aimed at maintaining USA Beef quality, integrity & consistency!
Introduction
http://www.beefadditivealert.org  Beef Additive Alert (tm) is a national consumer awareness campaign striving to maintain USA Beef quality, integrity & consistency! We are concerned about the use of beta agonist cattle feed additives, namely Zilpaterol and Ractopamine.

Animal welfare and the role beta agonists might play is a top concern of Beef Additive Alert (tm). We spoke exclusively with Renowned Animal Welfare Scientist Temple Grandin who met with cattle industry leaders August 7, 2013:  “I told the industry to either fix it or lose the beta agonists. Some animals are showing up at the plants in unacceptable condition, seriously compromising animal welfare. I’ve observed cattle lameness, stiffness, hoof problems, panting, and some animals could not walk, while others had to be put down. These problems that did not exist before beta agonists hit the market.”

Susan, we would like to thank you for your design of the Beef Additive Website, the extensive copywriting, press releases, research and public relations services. I know this has been an extensive project, took much research and somewhat trying, but you came through as a true professional. This can only happen when you have the passion and the energy to move forward, even when the project gets technical and difficult as this project did. We greatly look forward to working with you in the future. We are very satisfied with your design and ethics.
