Ever had an argument with your teen about why they NEED $80 black leggings? Wouldn't a $20 pair from the sporting goods store suffice? https://gma.yahoo.com/fancy-frugal-strangers-try-guess-whether-leggings-expensive-122746522--abc-news-fashion-and-beauty.html
Dan Edblom is the father of two teenaged girls in Marin County, California. We work together, and I have heard him complain mightily about his daughters’ obsession with black leggings, and not just any black leggings, but brand-name pairs that cost $65, $75, even $100 dollars. He’s got a point: d Don’t all black leggings look alike? I ask two teenaged girls from Marin County to help me with a very unscientific test.

when you consider the endless billions parents (and especially dads) eagerly and happily spend on equipment and recreation items for their 'boys' for their sons, it kind of puts a request for a single pair of '$80' leggings into perspective. if you have a son who plays sports, and most of them do for at least a period in life, you end up spending thousands. what's a measly pair of stockings? you buy your son a skateboard? it costs a minimum of $150, for one he won't be embarrassed to show up to his friends with. and then he ditches it in the corner after 1 week. so why is there such the double standard?

How do you explain South By Southwest? Among the 72,000 attendees there are big business interests, but the scene is more experimental, the products launched often impractical, and the crowd a lot younger.  The show is supposed to be about connected life and connected entertainment, but just what does that mean? Becky Worley explores.

Getting your size right Even brands that don’t lean on vanity sizing aren’t consistent. I got out the old measuring tape and did what I thought was a careful job. I ended up with maternity jeans, and I wasn’t pregnant.  The problem was in how I was taking my measurements. I was several inches off around my waist and hips (apparently, I hadn’t placed the measuring tape exactly where I should have) and off by a mile when it came to measuring my ...

In which I gross-out America and sexually harass the CEO of Levi's. https://gma.yahoo.com/8-months-without-washing-jeans-143645942--abc-news-fashion-and-beauty.html
In May 2014 Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh was at an environmental forum talking about ways to save water when he came clean about his own dirty jeans.“These jeans are maybe a year old and these have yet to see a washing machine. I know it sounds disgusting ... but I have yet to get a skin disease,” he said.He added that jeans don’t need regular washings and that denim aficionados would say never wash your jeans. Why Levi's CEO Says to Stop Was...

When my twins were babies, I searched high and low for any tech at CES that would help with the terror of newborn twins. I found nothing, zilch, nada. Oh Baby- times have changed.
I’ve been to almost every Consumer Electronics Show, except I missed 2008. That year, I had to miss it because I was giving birth to twins. The following year at CES, I had a fresh pair of eyes, or rather a very tired pair of eyes searching madly for new products that would make parenting easier. There weren’t any. But, oh baby, things have changed

Self-driving cars: the technology is here now auto makers just need to get us used to the idea.
Auto makers are using the Consumer Electronics Show to get us comfortable with cars that drive themselves. To keep consumer acceptance in pace with the advancing technology, big-name companies like Mercedes, BMW, and Audi are rolling out self-driving concept cars, while other manufacturers are incrementally adding autonomous features. Watch this video report...

This app is really interesting- I can imagine it's potential in emergencies, but I'm having a hard time imagining its use in everyday life.
https://www.yahoo.com/tech/sxsw-breakout-app-firechat-a-relatively-new-app-113578160814.html
A relatively new app called FireChat is on fire here at South by Southwest. What’s unique about it: No cell service or even WiFi networks are needed.  Cofounder and CEO Micha Benoliel says “It’s the first App that comes with its own network” Wait, what does that even mean?

Does Your Dog Need a Smartphone? Practically everybody has a smartphone or a fitness tracker. And it’s high time your dog got one, too. Ridiculous, you say?

Modern Home Economics- new ways to eat down the pantry. I saved $200 and organized my cabinets!
Next I bring in the queen of the pantry challenge, Jessica Fisher. As we open my pantry doors, I tell her that I only see spaghetti as my meal option.

From the day +Levi's® CEO Chip Bergh made his dirty jeans manifesto in May 2014, I haven't washed these. 32 wearings in 8 months. Not bad. How long have you gone between washes? Post pictures if you've got 'em. See the whole segment on +Good Morning America tomorrow

Heading to Vegas! The show still has a huge impact, here's why:
https://www.yahoo.com/tech/ces-2015-preview-the-2015-consumer-electronics-107041188099.html
The 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) opens Tuesday. What new tech wonders will it have on display? Mostly: iterations. Thinner devices, more use of wireless technology, and a focus on mobile and transportation. Here's what to expect.

Introduction

I’ve been covering technology as a TV reporter since 1998.  I’ve worked at the truly geeky ends of the spectrum (TechTV & This Week in Tech) and the most mainstream/mass market outlets you can find (ABC News/ Good Morning America).

I think there’s a place where consumer reporting and technology reporting dovetail perfectly: budget-friendly, easy-to-use, life-enhancing gear.

I post about new ideas applicable to all of us trying to live a smarter life: from dishwasher loading techniques to smartphone deals to geeky ways to workout more.

But I also post about technology too. Sometimes I feel all over the map, but consumer tech is not just inside silicon valley or buying the latest new phone.

I'm interested in what's truly useful. Kaizen: small improvements over time make a big difference!
