against the global cancer epidemic.

Through the theme Cancer – Not beyond us, World Cancer Day 2015 emphasises the need for taking action and implementing what we already know in order to push the global fight against cancer to a whole new level.

We're pleased to be supporting the "Cancer: 2 million reasons" campaign, alongside other charities.

The campaign calls upon all political parties to commit to improving research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for people affected by cancer today and in the future.

Today, the Government have announced a £160m boost to the Cancer Drugs Fund (CDF) increasing the Fund from £200m a year to £280m a year – meaning thousands more cancer patients in England will benefit from life-extending drugs recommended by their doctor.

We're looking for adventurous fundraisers to join us for a fun-filled day on the river in Kingston-Upon-Thames on 20th July!

We have 2 boats in the annual Kingston Rotary Club dragon boat race, so if you fancy taking on the challenge, we'd love to have you on the team.

No experience is necessary, training is given on the day and anyone over the age of 12 can take part.

For more information, please visit https://www.beatingbowelcancer.org/kingston-rotary-club-dragon-boat-race

At our Parlimentary Reception last week, we announced that we will launch a Five Year Forward View for bowel cancer to help drive improvements in treatment and care.

We need to do more to ensure that patients begin treatment as early as possible, so that we can improve bowel cancer survival rates.

You can read more about our plans here: http://bit.ly/1A2ii83

In response to the sad news that Lynda Bellingham has died, Mark Flannagan, our Chief Executive, said, “We’re deeply saddened to hear of the death of Lynda Bellingham and our thoughts are with her family and friends.

“Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer with over 41,000 people diagnosed each year – that’s someone diagnosed every 15 minutes. However, more than 90% of bowel cancer cases are treatable if caught early.

“We’d urge everyone to be aware of the symptoms of bowel cancer, so if you’ve been experiencing a change in bowel habit or have noticed blood in your poo for three weeks or more, please visit your GP.

“If anyone is worried about bowel cancer they can contact our nurse helpline on 08450 719 301 or visit our website www.beatingbowelcancer.org.”

Too many people delay going to see a doctor and ignore the symptoms.
