I'm Back Again

Moved back to my old stomping grounds.  I've been offline for a while, on the other side of the digital divide here again UUGGH.  Took quite some time to find an ISP that offered an internet speeds faster than smoke signals.  No cable available (don't care TWC has this market cornered and I have no use for them.)  Satellite option is off the table due to bandwidth caps.  4G - read above... I"m on the other side of the digital divide, too pricey for my bandwidth needs anyhow.

That being said, I would like to present a big thank you to http://www.ctcommunications.com/ for offering a respectable radio modem solution!

Would also like to present an equally sized F U to Alltel / Windstream for not keeping up with current technologies or upgrading lines from POTS and for being proud to offer a 512/128 DSL service.
What kind of joke is that.

I Quit Smoking

Vaping helped me with that. When I smoked I made my own cigarettes. Only logical that I would make my ejuice too, right?

Need to get a disk image of your Android's internal storage?

It's a pain in the ass now that started using MTP.  The only reliable way I found to get block access was to boot into recovery mode and use adb shell.  From there you can grab your image(s).

I understand why they did it, but understanding why doesn't mean I have to like it.  They could have left mass storage access in, and required a remount in read only mode or something.

FYI for anybody that cares. Gmtp and mtp-tools packages for Wheezy still have some growing up to do.

Pretty easy to foresee the lawsuits coming

Some bozo gets in a accident and claims the driving aid didn't warn him.  The bozo will win and they will force to car companies to add something else to the package.

News Flash :  If you spend more time concentrating on  your driving you wouldn't need these types of "driving aids".

I agree 100%.  Driving "aids" should not be necessary.  Unfortunately, humans are naturally stupid, arrogant, selfish creatures who think, stupidly, that they won't get in an accident; arrogantly that they can handle the task of driving with all this crap on their minds, and selfishly drive anyway because "I need to be there now" instead of waiting until their minds are cleared enough for the task to make sure they do indeed arrive in the first place.

That said...

people are stupid, arrogant, selfish creatures and with or without driving aids they will drive.  I'd rather know someone or something is paying attention even if it's not the driver himself as long as it has the ability to avoid hitting me in my car.

Which brings us one step close to "why do we even let people drive at all?  just require all cars to be autonomous" which I vehemently oppose.

Mainly because I'm -- perhaps stupidly, arrogantly, selfishly -- unwilling to relinquish that control.

Been a while since I've checked for an update but...

...I didn't realize it had been that long.

Now that I think of it maybe I should upgrade my 60's era cell phone! This SII must have been around longer than I thought!

And another thing. Come on Sprint I know you're pretty slow at pushing updates, but 35 years???

Giving WMD to ISIS
US government covers up found chemical weapons because they don't want Bush to be seen as right.  Then we leave the country effectively handing all these goodies over to ISIS.  Way to go!  Once again putting politics ahead of objective.
The Pentagon kept silent as munitions left over from Saddam Hussein’s war with Iran found new targets from 2004 to 2011: American and Iraqi troops.

Good-Bye Samsung

Got a GL G3 Vigor, would have preferred the G3, but the price is right and it still beats the hell out of the SII.
Definitive proof that Samsung sucks more than Sprint:
I can actually get 4G now, something the SII hardly ever did, anywhere except downtown Chicago and Columbus (every now and then).
The battery lasts for more than a few hours.
Haven't answered the phone only to find my voice echoing back at me, and neither party being able to hear each other.
Bluetooth connection doesn't stop Settings from "unfortunately stopping"  on JB.
Swype works right.
I could go on.  The SII wasn't bad, until JB update was pushed to it.  Don't think that was thought through all the way.
Sprint announced that it will be launching the LG G3 Vigor on its network starting on Friday, September 19. The mid-range smartphone will be available through Sprint sales channels, including online and at Sprint retail stores where customers can pay $299.99 for the phone without a contract or make 24 payments of $12.50 per month on Sprint's Easy Pay with $0 down. The LG G3 Vigor is...

Debian Wheezy - Flash plugin broken in latest Chrome stable release

It's a bit troubling that a bug this significant made it into Chrome's stable release channel.  From what I've seen, they are aware of the issue and I expect it will be fixed soon.  In the meantime you may want to downgrade.  I found a repository of older releases at http://mirror.pcbeta.com/google/chrome/deb/pool/main/g/google-chrome-stable/ downgrading to google-chrome-stable_37.0.2062.94-1_amd64.deb fixed the issue for me.

In other news, isn't it about time Flash DIES?

I've always hated flash.  It's intrusive, really, in how all these sites use it for their little ads and it leaves so zero control over e.g. the fact you're waiting for the text of the page to load while the flash ad is buffering instead (and no, I don't consider my 12 megabit internet connection to be "slow").  Or, how so many sites use it as a wrapper for anything they don't know how to do with basic HTML.  Or use it as a wrapper to make a web browser act like a "real" application instead of coding a "real" native app (though I do understand why they do it, I just hate that they do).

I need to revisit Debian.  I keep coming away from them because Stable's just too damned old and Testing's just too damned buggy.  Maybe by now Stable has caught up to where Sid was when I left years ago?

+Matt Aquila Clark, from https://plus.google.com/113983502674989982804/posts/EA4vP8mom4c  Win 7 don't do animated wallpapers without mods, but could see where this would be a bit distracting.

Introduction
Proud Pappy. See the pages for our grandsons,  Matthew and Cameron.  Being a grandparent is a parent's ultimate revenge!

I spend way too much time on the computer, but there isn't much a can't do with it.  Note to self:  Emailing the wife asking her to bring me a cup of coffee doesn't work so well.
Bragging rights
Woke up above ground today... But had to get my own coffee

My wife went through the drive-thru here the other day. After ordering and pulling up to the window, she lit a cigarette while waiting to pay and receive her order. After handing the cashier a twenty, the cashier told my wife that there was no smoking on the premises and she would need to put the cigarette out. My wife demanded her money back and left with no food.
