Bay Pointe resident Linda enjoyed some popcorn with us on #NationalPopcornDay! Check out this interesting popcorn trivia: The culinary world has spruced up popcorn in recent years, but the basic product may be one of the oldest snacks in the Americas, according to the Popcorn Board. It is believed that the first use of wild and early cultivated corn was popping. The oldest ears of popcorn ever found were discovered in the Bat Cave of west central New Mexico ranging from smaller than a penny to about 2 inches. The oldest Bat Cave ears are about 4,000 years old," the Popcorn Board website noted.

Our residents, Bernadine, Dorothy and Caroline at Bay Pointe Retirement enjoy their weekly Pinochle game. While card games are a leisure-time activity that brings people together to have fun, the National Institute on Aging says that card games do much more! Research indicates strategic card games, such as pinochle and bridge, that exercise memory and concentration may prevent or reduce cognitive decline in older adults.

Each year on January 16th, people across the nation observe #NationalNothingDay. National Nothing Day was created as a day to provide Americans with one national day when they can just sit without celebrating, observing or honoring anything. Here we have Bay Pointe residents, Ruth and Joe, enjoying the finer art of "doing nothing" as they sit on a community bench taking in the nothingness of the day!

Bay Pointe's LIFE Award recipient for the month of January is Deanna! Raised in Nevada, she relocated to California where she received her nursing training. She moved to the Pacific Northwest just four years ago to be closer to her grandchildren and she loves it here. "I enjoy working in a place where I can get to know the residents on an ongoing basis," she said. Thank you for all of your hard work and for being such a valuable member of our team, Deanna!
