$$$ - Excellent view, good classic Italian food and seafood, but usually with some modern twist. Good plating to distract you from the smaller portions, but a great wine selection.

If you want a great view of the Manhattan skyline, Battello's is a really good option. The food is just alright but the views almost make it worth it. My boyfriend and I came in on a Friday night for a late dinner at around 9 pm. We had reservations but the place is pretty big, so it didn't seem too packed. We opted for the tasting menu ($65), which comes with an appetizer, pasta, entrée & dessert sampler. Here's what we ordered: Appetizers: Crispy lump crab cake (charred corn, peperonata, jalapeno sour cream) - I'm not sure I really tasted any of the flavors but the crab cake itself tasted slightly better than frozen Costco ones. Wagyu beef tartare (caper aioli, quail egg, brioche crostini) - the color of this did not make it look appetizing at all. It looked very pink. It wasn't inedible but I would recommend skipping this. I don't have much to compare this against since this was only my second time in life eating beef tartare. Pastas: Tagliatelle & little neck clams (scallions, paprika, tomato-clam brodo) - this was pretty good. There were also some mussels in there, and the pasta was al dente. Short rib and fontina francobolli (herbed truffle jus) - this was a short rib ravioli. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms but if you are, I would recommend this. You can definitely taste the truffle. Entrees: Pan roasted swordfish (lemon chick pea puree, broccolini, trapanese pesto) - Slow-braised short rib (wilted swiss chard, roasted garlic potato puree, spiced port glaze ) I can't remember what was included in the dessert sampler, but I just remember everything being super sweet. Wine is reasonably priced. You can get a bottle starting at $20, or a glass, starting at $8. We went for the Danzante pinot grigio 2014, Veneto, which I liked. Then again, I'm no sommelier so I tend to like a lot of wines. And to be honest, I'm not sure I would be able to tell the difference between that and a $60 bottle of wine. They have live music but I'm not sure if that goes on every night. Overall, Battello's seems like a nice, semi-fancy place for semi-affordable prices.

I had the gnocchi, which was excellent. The venue is nice and offers a great view, but the music was out of place. My biggest complaint was the service. I found the staff to be curt and unprofessional. At a nice venue with relatively high prices, I expect a lot more.

A great brunch selection. You have to try their crab burger! A must go if you want a nice restaurant with astonishing views of lower Manhattan. The best location in Jersey City!!

From the moment we walked into Battello for the first time, we knew it was the place we were going to get married [our wedding = 7/18/15]. We loved the rustic feel meets boat house meets city views. The decor is just incredible — a mix of Italian lights, wood, glass, and…it’s on a boat dock in Newport, Jersey City with the best views on this side of the Hudson. And then….we tried the FOOD! OMG! INCREDIBLE. Chef DePersio knows what he is doing — this isn’t your average wedding food!!! TIP: You get to pick 2 dinner entree options: go for the short ribs and the scallops! You won’t be disappointed! They are utterly incredible. We had guests days and weeks later texting us and calling us about how amazing our ceremony and reception were, and how the food and service was incredible and that they were still dreaming of the short ribs and scallops! It was a magical day, in a magical place, with professional, accommodating, and wonderful staff - we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Our site event coordinator, Dominique, was excellent at responding to emails and accommodating us. I can’t say enough good things!! I wouldn’t have changed a thing!! I wish we could do it all over again. DREAM WEDDING COME TRUE!
