Here's a quick tip.

Sometimes you comment on a Facebook Update or you are tagged in one, where many people comment on. This will mean you get tons of notifications. Which can be quite annoying.

It used to be difficult to turn these off, but now it's actually quite simple. Here are two ways:

1) Within the post: Click on the arrow on the right and choose 'Stop notifications' (careful you can also block content of the person entireley)
2) Go to 'your notifications' (here: https://www.facebook.com/notifications) and click on the little 'x' next to an update, you can turn it off there.

Makes your life a lot calmer ;)

John’s an idiot (but most probably a bot) but the word ‘No’ apparently either John or the bot knows.

Something I wrote today, I learn a lot from looking around and figuring out what others do right and wrong and base part of my strategy on that.

For example if you look at Twitter you can learn a lot from brands, in this case there are the likes of KLM, Old Spice and Taco Bell for example.

Check it out and let me know your thoughts on it please!

Oh and off course you are doing me a great favor if you share this :)
Brands use Twitter for different purposes. Here are examples of brands using Twitter succesfully with different angles.

The lessons we learned from Heartbleed / NSA  but should already have known

There's a lot of talk about 'Heartbleed', which has made us all vulnerable.

Well actually, we already were vulnarable. We are on the web, so nothing is 100% safe. You should always be aware of that, the NSA has shown us just that before and now 'Heartbleed'.

Basically to me there are a few things which matter, which I believe everybody should look out for themselves:

1. Realisation
Realisation is a an important thing online these days. Some things you need to realise:
- Realise what you are doing. You are online and therefore never completely private.
- Realise that you are, in most cases, using free services, which means you basically pay with your privacy.
- Realise when you are on a public wifi
This is all fine as long as you realise it.

2. Take precautions
Always be prepared. This means for example:
- back up your stuff
- don't use the same password for everything
- keep changing passwords on a regular basis
- when not at home but on a public wifi, make sure you either use a VPN, make sure your computer is 'safe' or at least don't login to places you don't want others to have access to

These are some things each of us needs to do for themselves. Off course there is plenty which governments and big companies like Google and Facebook can do as well, but that's a different discussion. And for me it always starts with yourself. Be safe as much as you can yourself.

Over at Mashable they created a nice list of accounts of which you probably need to change your passwords for. I suggest you do this, but not just today, on a regular basis.

Find the list here and attached you can already see the social networks list.
