Chinese businesses are no longer producing cheaper versions of international products. They are competing on the world stage leveraging the economies of scale reached in their home markets.

Belgium has so much more to offer than just strong beer, great chocolate, and funny comics. The rather small country also plays a quite important role in European politics, with Brussels being kind of the capital of the EU. But most importantly, at least for us, #Belgium has a blooming #startup scene.

There is a lot of contradicting news in the last 24h on how far #facebook wants to go wrt our #financial #data and what this would include.

Ignoring the #clickbait #headlines, I can assure you that #banks and #socialmedia companies are looking into this collaboration efforts for several years allready.

In fact, the #West is 10 years behind something which has become an essential part in #Chinese daily life: #WeChat (or WeiXin as it's called in China), a peer to peer social network that allows payments, bookings, and so much more...

This is a whole different situation compared with what we in the West are used to, aka the "made in China" mockery. The only reason this isn't offered as a service yet so far, are the #privacy, #thrust and #security concerns we have here in the West.

Let's be a bit forward looking for once and stop keep fooling ourselves. This WILL happen: banks will offer increased social media interaction features AND/OR they will just be replaced by social media giants with a #banking #license. The question is not if but when.

"Yes I am a massive Libertarian into causes and thus I am not a fan of government, of banks and regulators and yes I push the boundaries to find ways of supporting the people, helping good causes and diluting the negative impacts of bad policy that is designed to keep those in power, in power."

But don’t misjudge my position as sticking two fingers up at regulation! Don’t mistake my position on ICO’s a term I dislike.

It is inevitable governments and their regulators will at some point attempt or partially regulate the world of crypto whether we like it and support or not.

Japanese #ramen broth is on the edge of #art and #science... 12h of slow cooking to take all the goodies out of the veggies and meat... Add a bottle of Saint-Emilion Gand Cru, Château Saint Valentin and your brain will explode!

The collection of books set as target to be read by the end of the year... 2 done, 10 more to go:

"Building microservices" from sam newman : a must read for anyone getting into microservices. What makes this one stand out from other books about microservices? It goes beyond the good news and big promises hype and gives you a balanced overview, not ignoring and neglecting lessons learned after 10y+ of Domain Driven Design.

"The Devops 2.0 Toolkit" from Viktor Farcic : a must read for understanding what a CI/CD pipeline is all about. Balanced overview of different solutions and tools on the market. Very hands-on approach.

PS: What's your favorite pick?

Very good read on time management, productivity and our lives as human beings in an ever increasing rat race.

Favorite quote: "growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of a cancer cell".
