I'd like to thank Lindsay for helping me try some new lighting ideas this evening. We got few decent shots.

Meet Pavel, the 10-year-old Amur tiger at the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park in the Great Cats exhibit. He was introduced to the zoo just this past Jan, 2018.

He's the first Amur tiger, also known as the Siberian tiger, that has been housed at the National Zoo in 70 years. There are less that 350 of his kind left in the wild. #Tigers #AmurTiger #EndangeredSpecies #cats #BigCats #nationalZoo

I want to thank Ashley for taking the time to with a little experiment out on the streets of our little town this evening.

Basically, we incorporated two separate exposures and two separate color lighting scenarios into one image in the same exposure. The background was shot naturally at about 10,000 Kelvin while Ashley was hit with an off camera speedlight balanced at 3200 Kelvin.

The speedlight was basically stuffed right in her face. It was really close. This allowed some of the ambient light to filter through and the edges of her hair went blue. The effect wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't part of the plan. As an afterthought If the flash had been farther back, her hair wouldn't have turned blue. (Just something for me to remember for the next time as it wasn't part of the plan.) Oh well, experiment and learn I guess.

Anyway. The technique allowed us to create a nice warm tone on Ashley while having a cool blue background that complements her skin tone. All done naturally in camera without a bunch of post-production in Photoshop.

I wasn't really sure what would happen but the technique shows promise.
