+Sharon Gaudin explains how the Titanic disaster might have been averted if its tech crew weren't so overworked.

Officer Lightoller's granddaughter wrote a book recently revealing that the steering systems of ships had just changed over from "steer right move left" to "steer right move right" and that in the heat of the moment the guy steering the ship reflexively went back to what he was used to and actually turned towards instead of away from the iceberg. Lightoller lied on the stand to avoid the man's family having any retribution.

Few people also know that the Californian was within sight of the Titanic as it sank, but because the rockets were white, not red, the captain of that ship decided they were just partying and instructed his crew to ignore it.
