The indispensable recipe tool for professional chefs, culinary students and the home culinarian.
Introduction

Bakeshop is more than just a recipe storage app. Bakeshop understands formulas and it uses volume/weight ratios for each ingredient to perform complex conversions and scaling.

With Bakeshop you can quickly find equivalent amounts for any ingredient. For example 'Free Scale' 1 Cup of Patent Flour and find its volume and weight in both US and Metric units (e.g. 4.25 oz / 125 g).

Bakeshops real power shows when scaling recipes. The apps options allow you to transform a formula by yield (number of portions) or mass (bakers %). You can also force the use and display of only US or Metric measurements as well as using only Volume or Weight units.

Building a better Bakeshop, Part II

iOS7 calls all developers to bring three things to mind when updating their applications: Deference, Clarity, & Depth.

When updating the settings page I focused heavily on clarity; making sure options were clear to the app user as to what happens when they make a particular action.

The ingredient view has offered me the time to not only continue on the path of clarity but also deference. I've spent a lot of time thinking about what it is you should see when you tapping on an ingredient. In the old Bakeshop, you would see the setup information, i.e. Name, description, ratio, etc. While this information is important, it is not most likely what you are tapping on an ingredient for.

An app user is tapping on an ingredient to do something with it or find out more information, and this is what happens in Bakeshop now. When you tap on an ingredient you see the information that is most useful to you. You instantly see scaling information which was hidden away before or not easily configured through other views.

This is deference in action. The overly complicate UI is gone and you are left with the content you need, when you need it.

Check it out! Bakeshop 3.2 it in the Apple App Store.

This version Fixed several issues with scaling ingredients and recipes by quantity (about time!). I've also added Backup/Restore to iCloud.

Plus, there are lots of background changes getting ready for iOS 7 and new features.

Thanks for your support everyone! Don't forget to rate and review.

Building a better Bakeshop

iOS 7 has changed the game. As a developer, it is always a challenge to keep up with changing design styles and keep your apps looking fresh and unique. Now that we've spent years layering in textures and making (sometimes) confusing interface decisions, we have the opportunity to strip it all away back to its core.

I figured a good place to start was with the settings page in Bakeshop. Gone are the lengthy messages and cryptic links. Here is a concise view that is instantly clear as to what the user is being asked to do.

The next version of Bakeshop will be taking the same approach set out here; clear and concise design. Offering you the information you want to see when you need it. Keep an eye out for future posts as development continues.

It’s finally here! After 8 months of on & off caffeine-fueled troubleshooting, image manipulation, and device testing, Bakeshop version 3 arrives today. Along with a version number that is higher than the last one there are some very important updates:

* Complete Retina Graphics makeover for both iPhone and iPad.
* Support for the iPhone 5
* Synced preferences between devices (more syncing coming soon)
* Quicker access to Searching and Sharing
* Heaps of bug fixes and stability improvements

There are a few features coming down the line (AirPlay Support, PDFs, Data Syncing), but if there is something you want to see, let me know.
