During the Health 2.0 event, that will be held in Barcelona from May 3rd to 5th 2017, we will perform a demo of mind controlled telepresence.
Our CEO, Pasquale Fedele, will be live on stage in Barcelona, (mind)controlling a robot located in our offices in Siena.

Augmentative and alternative communication for locked-in state patients

In neurodegenerative disease, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, the losing of any muscular response leads to a condition called Locked-In (LIS). Patients are cognitive aware but unable to use their muscles and therefore cannot communicate, so they needs to recur to Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) system, such as keyboard, tablet, eye tracking device or other aids. In Completely Locked-in Syndrome (CLIS) patients, also AAC devices based on residual movements are ineffective.
At the 27th International Symposium on ALS/MND we will present the result of a study conducted from 2012 to 2016, involved 60 patients, using Braincontrol, an AAC with multiple interaction methods, including Brain-Computer Interface (BCI).
Braincontrol is a framework for human-interaction that use biofeedback for a communicative purpose, with customizable grids and different method of interaction, such as touch, eye tracking, infrared technology, accelerometers and Brain Computer Interface, allowing its use for all the stage of the disease.

It is a bio-feedback user interface framework based on machine learning techniques. Our core solution can be considered a starting point for a very specific target (LIS patients) with a specific bio-feedback (brain waves) that, in the future, will lead us to exploit the knowledge acquired to less severe patients, elderly people and consumers for IoT and Robotic market, using multiple bio-feedback.
